Would this be a good idea? (Improving Healing)

Hi!
As far as I know, most Holy Paladins (including myself) find the way healing with a Paladin works somewhat uninteresting. Sure, it gets the job done well, but pressing the same key over and over gets tiresome.
Besides, as a Paladin, a melee class with plate and the possibily of using 2handers, standing back 40 yards away seems a bit awkard. Or so I think.
So, to overcome this, do you think a healing by meleeing approach would be interesting/better?
Imagine for example a talent (could substitute Aura mastery, it should be a base ability anyway) in which a certain% of your Holy damage cause x% healing to whoever has aggro. Could be 100%, 150% or 50%. The main idea would be to match flash of light, and in essence replace it, at least in PvE. (Since there's no aggro in PvP as far as I know).
If more than one people had aggro then the healind output would simply be divided accordingly.
Oh noes, but then the Paladin would be able to dps and heal. Well, there would be no Holy damage, which is probably the biggest the source of a Paladin's dps and if you're scared of the auto-attack, make that talent reduce all damage to 0% or something similar.
Oh but if the paladin were somehow able to match the dps of the mob (or the player if this would work in PvP) he wouldn't get hurt.
Of course, as long as he had mana. It would be no different of a Paladin putting concentration aura and with Spiritual Focus simply healing himself. In the end, the mob or the player would still be there in full health. And if you are a player how in the hell would a Holy Paladin's Holy damage be greater than your dps? lol
Some interesting thoughts:
Consecration would become a aoe healing. Holy Shock could lose it's healing abilty, when not having this talent. Exorcism could heal as well, if used agaisnt an Undead. Hammer of Wrath would heal too.
Anyway, what's your oppion?
And feel free to post whatever idea you have about improving healing!

yes, cool, but somewhat mana-inefficient
plus the idea of damage --> healing needs to be pushed higher into the holy talent tree or every paladin will spec in it
but i like your ideas, had some of them in common, like consecration = AoE healing

Yes, I don't know about mana eficiency, but I think that could be solved by increasing the % that holy damage would heal.
I also agree that it should be somehow unacessible to full prot or retri built or atleast make it work much better with end talents so as not to give those specs the full package.
Holytime, your post is quite good and informative, but I wasn't talking about dpsing..you wouldn't dps at all with this talent on. Only heal. But heal by fighting, which quite frankly appeals to me a lot.
Certanly there's more to healing that spamming FoL, but that's not the only concern to me...healing by fighting..now that would be great and paladinesque, lol.

roll spriest!
but seriously, unless the healing is 1000% of damage done, it's still going to be damn small

Make it OVER 9000! then. Really, just make it.
P.S. A priest should never be shadow, that's for corrupted undead and their friends. =P
