That's my computer. I've had it since Sept. '06 and it's run WOw fine until November. It constantly gives me 3 fps and is unplayable. Is it outdated? Should I just get it cleaned up? I dont have the money to buy a new comp, so I hope it's not outdated.
My setup was similar (3.0 pentium instead of AMD, but only 512mb RAM), similar features, etc. I'd probably be in the same situation as you if my brother hadn't given me his old Nvidia 6800 graphics card when he upgraded. I'm still running on 512mb RAM, but the only time the lag is show-stopping is when it's peak time in Shatt, or AV when every opposing player in the BG is about to appear.
I'm no expert, but it looks like your video card (or lack thereof) is your biggest problem. WoW eats RAM, and your graphics memory appears to max at 128mb, which isn't enough. I believe the card I have sports about 512mb, which helps offset the low system memory, but I did have to dial back the detail and cut the resolution in 1/2 when I started Outland. (I actually lagged to a complete stop for several minutes in Shatt, after which the "out of VRAM" message appeared.) So, I'd start with a graphics card; a decent one plus your existing 1g of system memory should help greatly. You might not be able to run at max graphics, but it should be playable.
As for cleaning out your computer's interior, it can't hurt, but I doubt it will "fix" your problem. Defragging your hard drive will probably help as well, if that hasn't been done lately. As someone else suggested, make sure you have no other programs running when you start WoW. System processes and McAfee are the only other things running for me, and I'm just too paranoid to shut off the security suite.
If a graphics card doesn't solve the problem, your only choice may be to upgrade to a new system. New power supplies, RAM, video cards etc may make the game playable, but the fact of the matter is, your computer is old and outdated. Mine's even older, so don't take offense. (Cameron: "It's not a piece of @#$%." Ferris: "It is a piece of $%^&. But, I don't even have a piece of $%^&, so I have to envy yours.")
$75 will upgrade me to 2g of RAM, but I'm running DDR like you, so when I eventually buy a new machine with DDR2 or DDR3 RAM, that money is wasted. Upgrading everything on your PC for a few hundred is throwing good money after bad, when a few hundred more will get you a new PC that will play WoW a lot better.

HAHA! I just cleaned it out and hooked it back up.
I broke it.... =P
The one im using now doesnt have the right specs for Wow by a few years, but it runs good enough for internet. I'm checking out Laptops and I've found a cheap one that I think meets the requirements. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8706536&productCategoryId=abcat0502001&type=product&tab=1&id=1199496037804#productdetail
I'm 16 and during school it's hard to get a job in my area, but once school lets out in mid-may I can easily get one. This laptop is only $500, but if it will work I dont see why I wouldnt get it.
What do you think about it?
Sry im an idiot when it comes to fixing things =P
If you don't really need a laptop's portability, you'll get more bang for the buck (especially for gaming) with a desktop...
