Wowhead client feature parity + Mac Gatekeeper Issue
Return to board index
I've been hoping for a while to see the features in the windows version of the Wowhead client make it to the Mac version, but it hasn't happened. Im curious if this is because of some underlying technical difficulty or just no desire to put the time and effort into the Mac client because of the smaller number of Mac users.
Either way, the current Mac client requires that I disable the gatekeeper security in OS X 10.8.2 in order to run, since its the only application I've encountered so far that requires me to do such a thing Im a bit loathe to turn off any security feature I don't have to. Could this be fixed soon please?
While your updating the client maybe you could look into adding the missing windows features ;)
We mac users can be a fussy bunch, but it's because we care xD Hope the wowhead team can fix these issues soon, I want to share my in game item info from the client to improve the MoP database but I just can't do that right now.
Also I posted in another thread that the item comparison tool seems to be broken at the moment for Mac/Safari users. Please don't make us second class citizens. It's because your site worked so well that you've got the undying loyalty of us Mac users.
If you right click on the Wowhead app and choose "Open" you can add it to a hidden Gatekeeper whitelist. Once an application is added to the whitelist you can open it like normal even though the developer hasn't signed it.
It's not a perfect solution but it beats having to completely disable Gatekeeper.
Unfortunately some Mac users are getting a "This version of WoW uses an unsupported realm" error when trying to upload data. So even after whitelisting the app you might not be able to share your data with the Wowhead community.
It's a shame they haven't fixed these problems yet. There's lots of MoP data still missing on the website so they could clearly use our free help…
