So yeah. usually I wouldn't come asking if I can, but I'm confused. my gear is by no means outstanding, but better then some I have seen. I have, to summarize
20,694 unbuffed HP
23,117 armor (with dev aura)
532 defense (can be brought to 537 w/o falling below 20k hp)
Armory Profile:

So on so forth. I'm being told on multiple occasions I am not prepared to run heroics, and need another 5-10k hp before I can. I have been researching a lot of prot gear and can really see no way I can improve that without 1. doing heroics or 2. Naxx, which both seem to be out of my league atm. I am aware I can make some minor changes, such as enchants, 2 wyrmrest items, and maybe 2 additional items from normal instances, but surely wouldn't get me as high as they think I need.
Am I really not prepared? or are these people just running with far too high standards?

Yeah i've noticed this notion in many players.
I'm a pretty geared healer, and I was running multiple instances with a tank that had 22.5k hp. I had DPS saying that the group was doomed because of the tank's HP, and they were completely wrong. We 1 shotted every boss in Gun'Drak with that tank, and Gun'Drak isn't the easiest heroic around.
2 DPS, a warlock and a rogue, were both "Too Good" to run with a tank that was beginning heroics. "Too Good" for 5 emblems in 45 minutes >_>.
Honestly, just get to the defense cap and you'll be fine. As long as you can hold aggro with the defense cap, you will win.
Easy starting heroics: UK, Nexus, Azjol-Nerub.
