I was fishing in Booty Bay, and found one of these and it had some mageweave and stuff in it... I was like wtf.. but yeah, I landed my fishing line in the middle of one of those whirlpools and o_O there it was.

Fishing is a LOT more fun post 1.9. Around level 35, I started fishing in STV. Usually, I'm just out of aggro range of lvl 44 nagas or buccaneers, which makes my excursions all the more intense. AND all the more rewarding. I've fished up tons of green loots this way that I can't even use yet (level 40+), not to mention many many bolts of runecloth. And of course, the fish :)

PS: Does anyone have an idea what the respawn rate is on floating wreckage? I've seen pools in the "prespawn" stage, where debris looks like it's just under the water and it's unfishable (but still marked as "floating wreckage"), but I haven't ever camped one long enough to figure out when they're fishable again.

i found 4 or 5 of these 'floating wreckage' or whatever they r called pretty close to the dock along the mainland shore in feralas, got a ton of nice stuff, just fyi ( ignore this if ur on proudmore 8] )

I've fished these for about 3 days.. made about 70g in that time from items that've dropped out.

I' d say without a doubt this is the fastest way to make money. Stonescale eels are a good dime, but the AH can have 400 eels in it on a good weekend, and not everyone can use em. However, everyone needs green items. Hell, i sold "Schematic: Spellpower Goggles Xtreme" for 13g in Gadget after spending the first 15min after log-in fishing on the coast.

i saw some floating wreckage and i nvr have before so i took out my fishing rod, caught a trunk ,and man was i excited when i found plans for mithril shield spike AND thorium belt in one trunk

The secret to fishing the mithril bound trunks in Booty Bay, if you want to make the most of it, is to run the beach TWICE. Start point = go up the east coast of the peninsula just past the zanzil ruins. You'll see a palm tree where the sand ends and the cliffs start. There is a respawn point past that palm tree. Fish out EVERY SINGLE node between there and Booty Bay. To do that you'll have to be maybe lvl 40 or so. Kill anything in your path :)

At Booty Bay, swim across and continue up along the west coast of the peninsula, dodging mobs as you see fit, but be sure to fish out EVERY node (lvls <40 do the best u can :) ). Fish them out all the way up to the GromGol camp. After that point the chests change to iron bound trunks.

The trick is that by fishing out ALL the nodes you encourage more respawns and hence a higher respawning of the two choice nodes, Stonescale eel and Floating Wreckage.

The trick is once you have cleaned that long area of fishing nodes you run to BB and unload your loot then go straight back to the start and do it again.

I have had times where I fished out maybe 5 mithril bound trunks on my first run and 30 on my second run (extreme case).

From floating wreckage they drop an average of maybe 2-3 trunks per node, with some stranglekelp and romsey rum thrown in for good measure.

From the others - stonescale eel, firefin snapper and oily blackmouth - you might get 0.5 trunks per node. Not a lot BUT it is worth fishing them out to encourage a respawn and the chance of a floating wreckage node on your subsequent run.

I fished it for weeks and perfected this method. If you're main is a 60 don't bother. Better to farm something bigger, but if you're main is lvl 40 this is outstanding value for time.

Some helpful pointers:

1) If you are an enchanter you MUST do this run over and over. The dusts, shards and essences from the lvl40+ items in these trunks are worth a bucketload. You will struggle to spend all your money after a couple of weeks :).

2) If you are a tailor you simply MUST do this. I still haved 120 bolts of runecloth sitting in my bank on the offchance I might need them one day :). Mageweave bolt droppage is good too.

3) If you are a leatherworker it is great for the amount of thick and rugged leather that drops.

4) If you are the impatient type then don't open them as you go. Wait til you have finished two runs and open your trunks all at once. The general success of the haul overshadows the sinking feeling of that odd trunk that contains 1silver35copper :).

5) Make sure that you ALWAYS carry potions of swim speed and water breathing. The best means of escape from a ganker is to jump into the ocean and quaff a swim speed. They will usually give up unless they can swim fast themselves or walk on water (dam priests).

6) I think you may need 175 fishing to fish in the prescribed area, so get your fishing to 100 in Elwynn or wherever and buy the baubles in the fishing shop in Booty Bay.

7) The spawnage has some sort of locale function in it. By fishing out nodes in the specified area you deplete the supply of nodes to the locale and increase the spawning rate. As far as I can tell the spawning rate is 25% for each of the 4 nodes available. Although you may think that the firefin snapper and oily blackmouth respawn more often, it is an illusion. It is just that they are left UNTOUCHED more often. So when people fish out all of the stonescale and Mithril bound trunk nodes they are spawn-replaced by 50% oily blackmouth and Firefins..... hence the need to fish them all out the fist time round.

8) I tell you now, because I have been doing it and have enough money :). Spread the wealth I say ;)

These are very good presents if you're lookin' for a few free greens.

Also helps if you have runecloth or mageweave patterns, but no mageweave or runecloth bolts to use.

I myself have made about 30g so far off of these, and i'm only lvl 35.

And that rum tends to help a bit in battle, because if you didn't know, it gives, and i quote (somewhat), "Gives you +15 Stamina and makes you drunk to boot!"

Not much is better than drunken swinging at creatures i can't kill.

Don't ask me how, but this morning before I left for work, I thought I would do some fishing near the pirate compound close to Booty Bay. I saw a bunch of floating wreckage, so I slipped a shiny bauble onto my rod and cast away. On my first, second and third casts I pulled up a mithril bound trunk!

What are the odds? Anyway, did not have time to open them so I am looking forward to the surprises when I get home from work thise evening!

I fished 2 of these in STV.

Opened them and each had 1 silver coin and some copper coins. WTF! That was it! Just pocket change! I realize I didn't exactly risk my life for this but I have gotten better loot than this from Watertight Trunks fished off Longshore in Westfall when I was still in my teen levels. I fished some Ironbound Trunks elsewhere in STV and they had the usual trade goods (silk and mageweave bolts, etc) which at least I can forward to a tailor friend.

Very Disappointing.

I love fishing! I had 20 gold coins at level 25 when I learned fishing, and now Im level 27, 150 fishing skill and 40 gold coins! It will make me rich! I just love it... :P

I have a skill 10 rod lol to lazy to buy a new one, well i put a really good bobber on it and it made BB fishing easy

i got this only had 1s 30c and i think some grey plant sold for 5s while the strangekelp i fished out sold for more.

i fished in tanaris all night the first day of 1.9 when i heard the new stuff was there. Heres what i saw. pools of red firefin snappers, floating wreckage, and pools of oily blackmouths (in that order of popularity, firefins were most popular, oily blackmouths were least popular, and wreckage was in the middle) You have a high chance of catching one of these in pools of fish, somewhere like 1 in 5 catches in a pool is a trunk. but in the wreckage, its like almost guranteed to be a trunk, or a Rumsey Rum black label. the wreckage also has a high chance of being stranglekelp.

Wreckage almost always has one of these in it; sometimes two or three. They're always filled with good stuff; some money, a bit of cloth in the form of bolts, some leather, green items, healing pots, mana pots... Very nice.

Fishing the wreckage is *very* worthwhile. I pulled 8 of these in under an hour, went back to the same spot the next day and pulled 10 more between 2 sessions. In my first run, I got 10 bolts of Mageweave, 4 bolts of Runecloth, 2 greens in the upper 30's, several superior healing potions... that and a couple patterns pulled from bottles on the beach. All in all, close to 20 gold worth of gear in a little less than an hour of fishing.

I fished the firefin and oily blackmouth schools, a stack of 20 goes for about a gold on the AH from people not interested in spending time fishing, and I pulled some trunks from the schools too. Also, Stonescale Eels fetch a few gold (I got 2 for a stack of 11) because they're more scarce.

I fished by BB as well, though if you're lower level you can find plenty of good fishing along the coast of Westfall (if you're alliance). Lower level loot from iron-bound trunks, but plenty of Blackmouths. At that level, you're happy for anything you can get. :p ;)

I'm (currently) a 49 holy human priest, playing on Razorgore EU, pvp realm. I have my fishing maxed out at 300 and use Strong Fishing Pole. I use a normal steed and Carrot on a Stick to run. I fish alot (ALOT) in stranglethorn vale. I will fish every pool at the southern savage coast and the crystal shore and can cast from 2 up to 6 times in the same pool. With my level I have a 100% succes rate on catching my fish. I thought for the fun of it I will keep track of what I've fished today.
I did 2 rounds today starting point: 1, end point: 4 and restarting at 1, ending up at 4 before going to booty bay to check out my loot (I have added a screenshot of how my regular route looks like). I did not aggro anything and didn't engage in PVP combat (although I would scare of the lower levels fishing in a floating wreckage). I didn't think alot of other people were fishing but sometimes it felt like pools were missing. This run took me about 1h30min. This is what I got:

I fished in the following pools: (round 1 - round 2)
- Stonescale Eel Swarm: 3 - 4
- Firefin Snapper School: 7 - 7
- Oily Blackmouth School: 10 - 3
- Floating Wreckage: 3 - 4

I got a total of:
- Stonescale Eel: 21
- Firefin Snapper: 41
- Oily Blackmouth: 51
- Mithril Bound Trunk: 27 (12: 7 - 4 fished in non floating wreckage pools)
- Stranglekelp: 15
- Rumsey Rum Black Label: 10

Out of my Mithril Bound Trunk I got the following:
- 42 silver 76 copper
- 11 Superior Healing Potion
- 9 Greater Mana Potion
- 11 Bolt of Mageweave
- 6 Bolt of Runecloth
- 39 Thick Leather
- 19 Rugged Leather
- Dreadblade of agility
- Champion's Greaves of the falcon
- Chromite Chestplate
- Battlefield Destroyer of agility
- Gothic Plate Leggings of the eagle

On a sidenote, one time you are more lucky with what you get than other times :)!

I have gotten more of decently valuable items from trunks than I can keep track of so these are real nice most of time.

Sometimes these contains just some lousy coins so, not much of value but those are uncommon.

What is surprise for me is that some items sell on my realm in AH for pretty decent amount thinking how basic those items are...

Overall I started to enjoy the fishing alot.
