Not dying is quite easy, especially if you're a ranged class. The hard part is all the additional stuff: no ah, no trading, no good gear, etc... present in Ironman. You can just load a toon with potion and consumables or even have a high lvl toon kill a mob that you tag.And also can't you still get boosted? I know it's nerfed but you still have the convenience of levelling while afk.The ironman challenge requires footage to show you didn't "cheat". In Classic Fresh, everyone is going to "cheat" because no such process exist.
So this is just an indicator that you died for hardcore players. Lazy. How about a real hardcore mode like diablo has?
I wonder if we will get anything like this in retail. It's a little weird to include such a novel feature in the legacy version and not the current one.
Some people in these comments won't ever be happy. This was never meant to be a full-blown balls-to-the-walls ironman challenge and let's not pretend like everyone doing the ironman challenge abide by the same set of rules. And claiming to have only death as the factor for failing makes it so easy is an overstatement by far. Sure streamers and people with dedicated friends and guilds can achieve a 1-60 deathless run without much "risk" if they want to. But that's not really the point. It's not like getting 1-60 without dying is normal or easy. If you want to achieve it with low risk you have to take measurements to ensure your success and thereby you are already playing the game in a different way than you normally would meaning that the challenge is altering the way you interact with the game so it has some sense of meaning. It's just a fun cosmetic buff on your character providing you with a neat /flex emote. Making this too advanced and crazy would just make it so that most players wouldn't even attempt it in the first place. Let's not pretend as most players get from 1-60 without dying to begin with. This looks like a neat challenge with a neat reward if you are capable of doing it. It's nothing more, nothing less and I suspect it was not meant to be anything more than that.I do agree that being able to dismiss the debuff this easily seems rather silly. Just remove the -1% to all your stats part of the debuff and make it into something cosmetic so one of the risks you run into when taking upon this challenge is to have this cosmetic change to your character and this "Tarnished Soul" permanently attached to your character.
At this point it seems Blizzard just ripped off Ascension WoW's program, kewk.
This is a very nice first step towards an IronMan recognition in WoW. As a starter I have really only one suggestion: I'd like a chronicler to show up in Darnassus as well. It's a bit long to wait until level 14 or thereabouts for an elven toon to get this buff.
This is awesome!
It's a good start. but pointless unless they add other systems to prevent abuse. For example,I will group with 4 other 60's that tag all mobs / quests for me.I will group with 60's to carry me through dungeons to get all items easily.Join premade raids and stand at the entrance to 'buy' loot, similar to gdkp. Simple solution:Unable to trade with non-'soul of iron' playersUnable to group with non-'soul of iron' players.Unable to get credit for quests/npc if the mob was 'tagged' by a non-'soul of iron' player.Or just add a soul of iron server ^^
This is very interesting. However, it needs clarification. When you reach level cap, does the soul of iron buff/emote stick or will it drop off first raid you go into and die? If it does not stick, what is the point of trying for it? Standing around in SW or Org flexing cos you can't die? Not very exciting game play.If grouping is allowed, what is to stop people standing at the front of a cave, or an instance while others level them? Leveling of others does not have to be done only by high leveled characters. A group or a guild could organise that as easily. Are Soul of Iron characters allowed to receive items from others? If so, what is to stop a lvl 1 receiving a stamina enchanted tuxedo which would give a very unfair advantage in the early levels. Will there be some form of leader board so it is possible to see who else is trying for the Soul of Iron? Even if this was only possible per server, it would be a lot more fun to know and be able to chat to other contestants. For alliance night elves, while I know it is possible to not get the buff until level 20 or so when they can safely run to Ironforge and still be part of the Soul of Iron contenders, I think that is slightly unfair to them. All other characters in the game will be able to get the buff much earlier and others in the world will be able to see it and cheer them on.I love the idea of this. I hope it is implemented well and creates more fun for us, I would love to try it and am currently playing it on the PTR.
The screenshots show a spell in your spellbook, I never got this in SoM beta. Was it scrapped, or is it a bug?
They should make it that we get to unlock the legendary level 60 version of the ashbringer if we don't die on one of our characters if we don't die with the soul of iron buff and we complete every raid in the game. And it doesn't work if you keep your character out of the boss fight.
