BFA WORST PVP EXPANSION
Came for the pver's commenting on a pvp thread and blaming mechanics for their losses, not disappointed =)
I enjoy the PvP aspect the most in WoW. I’ll spend hours dueling my friends or joining them in battlegrounds. I think the biggest deterrence for many though, is the toxic enviroment PvP brings with it. I’ve met some of the most vile players through dueling and battlegrounds. Why would anyone want to step outside their comfort zone and dabble in battlegrounds when all you’re met with is literal hatred? Sure you could ignore it or block it out, but coming from a long time PvP (casual for the most part) player whose skin has thickened thanks partially to WoW, it does get very old and weary.
Those you complaining about not seeing numbers obviously haven't PVPed over these expansions, or you would know what the author has written is 100% accurate. I've been a semi-casual PVPer since 2005 and agree completely with the information here. We don't need hard data to know when/how participation dropped off, if Rated Battlegrounds are a wasteland (they are) or if Legion destroyed PVP with templates (it did). The real problem (aside from the stupid templates) for PVP was the effort to turn it into an e-sport via Arenas, when casual Battlegrounds were always the most popular form of PVP. This was an enormous mistake, which resulted in Blizz firing most of that department a while back. All Blizz needs to do is go back to honor vendors with gear purchasable via honor points, which looks like is happening in Shadowlands, albeit probably in some screwed up fashion because their management is the worst of any game company on Earth, at the moment.
Only time I really participated in Arenas was back in MoP... ah the Double Destro team.
The rewards structure this expansion was bad at getting people interested. Epic BGs are imbalanced. The author's experience with WPvP isn't the same as mine. It probably depends more on faction balance, and changing the WM bonus to include rep gains would help keep that incentive steady.
I would like to try arena but I have no idea how to start or how arenas are played. I would love if wowhead would partner with some content creator (cof cof hazelnuttygames cof cof) for a very very beginner's guide to rated arena for people that are so new the pvp tab gives then anxiety.
Same for my MM hunter. I would carry my alt account by dual boxing and make them blow cds on the toon I was carrying, then switch windows and one shot them with Aimed Shot and it would be a 1v1. Man those were some good times!
Click bait, just author feelings about the pvp... this article is pointless
People who want to pvp will do so regardless off “rewards”. Look where incentives got people with that mindset in BFA, war mode gives you increased gains, no pvper cared or asked for that .We all knew what time it was when you see an enemy you have a grudge for. It’s the other people who want an incentive for doing stuff that plague pvp. This article, is written as a doom sayer and sounds like pve propaganda. No one wanted stuff like war mode or scaling . It’s the people who don’t like getting into fights that brought that nonsense about us all.
Never have, never will. I HATE PvP in MMOs, the gameplay of an MMO simply does not lend itself to an enjoyable PvP experience at all imo.
I started playing WoW a few months before Legion went live and am still relatively new to the game compared to all those that have played since Vanilla. I rarely PVP myself or even turn Warmode ON because of my bad experience with PVP early on, I was mainly turned off by it due to the fact I simply hate where your body is camped by a another player so you can be killed over and over again right after you rez your toon! Also, before warmode, I didn't like it when a group of max level PVPers of the opposite faction would go to a zone and to kill all the NPC's including the quest givers while leveling a toon there. To me that is dishonorable and it should go back to when you could lose honor for doing something like that like it was earlier on in WoW. Which is why I do PVE most of the time, until recently, where I have done more PVP just to do world event PVP achievements, to unlock Legion artifact looks, or maybe to get a mount since I am a collector in game.
I think Blizzard just made the executive choice not to focus any development on PvP when they develop their systems because only a minority engage in it for an extended period of time and it ate a ton of developer hours in balancing it and keeping it engaging. Most MMOs do not have PvP, so they have no competition in the very niche MMO PvP community where those players who enjoy PvP could go to, their assumption is probably those players who no longer enjoy the ‘new’ PvP will try PvE or something else and continue playing with only a fraction actually quitting the game over it.
