I would guess it was back in college me and another guy who played were just kinda buddies. Until the day we learned we were both playing suddenly even out of game we were chilling and hanging out. Even today we still keep in touch.
Oooh..love Catfish! I've met some really good friends in game..and also some really bad ones..comes with the territory I guess..fingers crossed..hope I win!
I haven't ever met someone from WoW in real life, though I do regularly play with one of my closest friends. It's a lot of fun to be able to hang out and chat about the game (despite how incredibly nerdy it would sound to anyone who overheard).
Some years ago, i met a guy in ICC. I would seem he was from my country, and he invited me to his guild full of more people from my country. It was the start of a great friendship...
You hear about people meeting in real life that have met on wow before. It's interesting. I would so watch a few minutes of it if it included some previously played downplay of the ppl on wow before meeting as, you know, real ppl.I'd totally go for that beer, too.
Some years ago got to know friends of friend from other town, and even to this day, still playing and chatting with them in other games and just in skype.
I met a gentleman at tol barad , I was being ganked by a rogue, shocker, and he lent a hand and we scared him away. After a chat, we friended each other and have been good pals ever since, doing everything to questing to raiding. Heres to WoW and its friendship making qualities, and to many more!
I started playing in Nov. 2009. My friend's brother got him playing, and then my friend got me playing - we all joined the same guild. A couple of years later, the guild kind of fell apart, but most of us kept in touch. In the last year, most of us have found a new home in a new guild on the same realm. I've kept in touch with my original guildies for four years, but one stands out (I love all of you though!) - he's become one of my best friends, can tell him anything, and honestly do not know what I would do without him. <3 you, Mike :)
Just as you said, there are many lasting friendships in WoW. I've met so many people in WoW and have forged many good friendships. Unfortunately I lost my connection with the 2 players I loved playing with the most. Arnout and Jacob. To you, dear readers, these names probably mean nothing of great significance, but to me they are the names of two great friends. I will tell you about Arnout. I don't remember how exactly we met. I remember we met on the PTR during 5.2. During that period I was playing on the PTR because I couldn't afford retail. We had an amazing time with him. We always played together, I remember farming the Zandalari Warbringers because he needed the reputation insignia. He was apparently preparing to start playing on retail and he wanted to learn as much about MoP as possible ( he had been a heroic raider during previous expansions, especially Cataclysm, since he had all that DS gear and also the Pureblood Firehawk which I was so jealous of ). Eventually I managed to convince him to level a pandaren monk with me. It was quite fun. He knew so much about the game, that felt so awesome because I also know a lot about the game and he actually knew more than me! We talked on Skype ( where he rarely came online ). We duo'ed all dungeons until Cataclysm. He told me he has problems at home ( he was a few years older than me, I have forgotten now how old exactly he was, I was 16 at the time. He was probably 20 ). because of WoW so he will probably stop playing it. He told me to continue leveling the monk on my own. But after a few days he was back and he had to catch up to me. Eventually we both reached 90 and he decided that it's time he started playing retail. I was very sad that I couldn't continue playing with him. I had to find a way to play retail. On one WoW forum ( not a very popular one ) I re-told my story, the one you see above, and eventually I found a guy willing to pay my account's subscription. A truly generous person. He didn't want anything in exchange. This happened 2 weeks after my friend Arnout had started playing retail. He was already doing HC ToT ( it was now 5.3 ) on 2 of his characters. We played together for quite a while. We did IoT rares, scenarios, dungeons, even LFR although he didn't need it that much. I was often supplying him with mats etc and he gave me gold to buy the guild heirlooms. Most of the time we just chatted while each of us did his own job. But that's what I wanted. I just enjoyed chatting with him. One day he didn't come online. A second followed. A whole week had passed and Arnout still hadn't come online. Not even on Skype. I asked some of his guildmates and battletag friends and they all said he was on some trip... some fair. I'm not sure exactly. I thought, perhaps he will be back after 2 weeks. But he didn't come back. I started to lose my "blast" for playing. I had moved to retail just so I could play with him. It's not like I didn't want to play WoW but it was different without my friend. And so I told the guy who was paying my account to stop doing so. I didn't want to drain his money in vain. It was enough of a burden as it was. I gathered all my mats, tradable pets and rare goodies on the account and was planning to mail it all to Arnout... but I feared that he might come back after more than 30 days and he goodies would be lost. I decided to give them to another friend whom I had made during the period described above. 13000 gold plus a lot of rare items and mats and pets and so on. I wrote a few "letters" to Arnout via the in-game mailbox hoping that he would see them some day. After that I returned to playing on the PTR. Ever since ( about 9 months now ) I've been checking the armory of all of his characters to see if there has been any activity but sadly there isn't...After some time ( during 5.4 ) I decided that I want to play retail to get heirlooms off Garrosh in order to prepare for WoD ( which I am super hyped up for ). I had already lost my previous account's details so I had to start from a scratch again. Now I am a human paladin with 543 ilvl, a lot of friends and one hell of an awesome pureblood firehawk ( it finally dropped after 100+ runs yey ).I still check Arnout's armory hoping that he will come back one day. But I fear the worst... He was such a dedicated player and a good person overall. He didn't say anything, he just disappeared. I fear he might have crashed during his trip... :/ I thought I have the thing in WoW that I want the most. The Pureblood Firehawk was the whole game for me. But now that I have it, all I want is to have my friend back...
A few months ago, we were considering arranging a meetup with some guildies in our region. Now they're largely not playing anymore. Hopefully WoD brings them back, cause I miss 'em!
most of my friends quit the game already (after wotlk surprise surprise) , anyways kudos for this idea!
I haven't met anyone in game that turned into a lasting friendship but this game helped me connect with my younger brother. Basically there was a rift between us for various reasons and we really hated each other. We didn't talk much at all and when we did it was to argue or fuss. I saw him playing WoW sometime in WotLK and decided I'd try it out. Amazingly in game we had common goals and desires in this virtual world and really started to bond and not look at each other as enemies. Now I can really say he is my best friend and we aren't enemies anymore. This game provided an avenue for us to reconcile our differences and get over a lot of hurt and that is what will really stick with me about this game more than any raid victory or loot roll.
During the Sunwell raid many guilds fell apart, mine included. I wasn't really thrilled with the idea of looking for a new guild so I decided to make my own. Until the inevitable dissolution of this guild I met two people who were truly wonderful. See I have been playing wow since I was really young and it wasn't hard to tell my relative age, but those two player showed the most kindness, consideration, and respect that I had even received, or found since. While they have moved on and I have stayed put still playing WoW, I will remember the friends I made, that showed me that just cause I was young didn't mean I couldn't make a difference in the lives of those I played with.
There was a person I played with called Gañon, he has played since day one of the game. He always had such fun little relics from vanilla like this weird ghost capturing device. Now im not sure where he went, but his character no longer exists. Im guessing he realm transfered like half of the people on the Misha realm, or he transfered to alliance, like the other half of the realm because horde never wins in the BGs. But I may never know. It was fun while it lasted though. There was quite a few people that were on the realm that I played with for years, but most of them switched faction and realm. Which makes the horde on the misha realm, and the very very old forgotten guild I am in, very small.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Well, 2 years ago, when I started RPing, I actually got to know someone that I almost instantly added to Skype, talked with a ton, and still do. He's also great at giving advice, and I would most certainly love to get a drink with him sometime.
After TBC my guild broke up and now i found awesome guild. We have our own grp on facebook and we share some funny stuff and hel each other. Additionally we play better together cause we know each other better:) For The HORDE!
Well in my last guild , i had tons of fun. Frist time raiding with a guild and , it was just awesome. And i made lots of friends there, but i added my Guildmaster on the battletag friendslist and since then, we have been friends and chatting and playing alot together. Awesome. :) Internet Friendships FTW!Ohh and, i hope i win something! :D
The guild I'm in (Consideration @ Dentarg EU) had a guild meeting last summer and that's when I really feelt accepted in to the guild and we had so much fun that time! (can't wait till summer for the next meeting). So now I just don't have good friends ingame but irl to! Some of them are my best friends that can understand me both in/outside the game and well... Thats why I'm on wow today... not for the game (Okey abit for the game) but for the ppl I'm gaming with.So I don't have one meaningful friendship... I have many more!
Nope! Just no! MTV just stay with your teen mothers and leave WoW alone!
