it never ceases to amuse me that people skip over the years of service to Blizzard (in this case almost 2 decades)I can't even imagine staying in a single company for half a decade, let alone almost 2I suppose when I get closer to retirement age that might change
What, 18 years? How old is this guy? In that picture he looked much younger to me than someone who spent 18 years working in 1 company!
gotta love the doom n gloom everytime some leaves Acti-Blizzard, people act like businesses don't hire other folks who may just aswell be as talented as the last in that field of the job , this been happening like for what years and yet WoW still here.
It's interesting to see how many long runners at Blizzard ended up joining Dreamhaven and its two development studios. A lot of the people generally credited with putting Blizzard on the map, or enabling some of their more popular side projects like Classic, as well as some promising up-and-comers seem to be signing on with Dreamhaven. It's going to at least be interesting to see what comes out of their approach to game design and if they nail down an in-house visual aesthetic or if they'll change things up between franchises.
Gonzalez spent 20 years working for Blizzard. No wonder he wanted to move on. 20 years in the same company would burn anyone out. Can't blame him for wanting to try something new prior to retirement.
I hope Dreamhaven buys out World of Warcraft (just that and nothing else) as it was Mike Morhaime's original idea (well, with some others) and they make it a decent or more decent game once more. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dreamhaven is going to do. A nice MMO would be good...
Welcome aboard Mr. Gonzalez. Together we can beat up Activision!
See you there, Omar.
That only gives me more hope for Dreamhaven's projects. For the first time in several years, I've cancelled my sub. I'm just not having fun, and don't support the direction of the game or the people who are working there currently. I'm interested to see what comes out of Dreamhaven's two studios.
I'm going to out myself as a former Blizzard employee, I worked on the WoW UI Team from July 2013 until April 2018, and Omar was a personal friend of mine. He was a very kind, knowledgable person who was always fun to be around, and this news gives me great hope for Dreamhaven and I hope that the games they put out remind us of the "old" Blizzard in all of the good ways we remember.
But, did he already leave? Or he's on resignation?
