Most rpg's I go in with the intent of playing a caster but end up more of a hybrid between caster and melee if its possible. And of "casters" I tend to go towards the sorcerer/warlock/demon/pet stuff rather then other archetypes. The runner up to that is a bow and stealth user because sometimes nothing is more exciting then yoinking stuff from unsuspecting characters or just taking them out silently from a distance. So in summary. A sorcerer/warlock/"dark" caster or a bow using thief.
I've always played range rogue classes with an emphasis on healing (I'll explain in a why in a sec). Other reasons include, choosing when I attack, running away really fast, and most importantly lots and lost of treasure! I'm a really big penny pincher... At the end of games I tend to have a stupid amount of money that never gets used. This is also partially due to the fact that I don't ever buy healing items. (Remember the emphasis on healing?)"I'm sure this level 5 item will last me until I get that free one at lvl 40!"

I mainly play Casters.Warlocks and necromancers are my favorite! My very first character on Diablo was a necro!
I've been trying lots of classes since I started playing rpgs. So its kind of hard picking 1 fav class. I've tanked, healed, ranged and melee dpsed. Lately though I think I've been leaning more towards tank classes. Something about being someone else's shield gives me a good feeling. I'll be everybody's knight in shining armor. :P
Warrior. I was a grunt in the Army and I play one in make believe too.
Rogues all the way! But only the dagger-wielding and stealthy kind. Bows and arrows aren't really my thing, 'cause getting up close and backstabbing someone just gets my blood pumping! If there isn't a rogue class available, then I guess I'll go for a warrior/knight.
I usually play some kind of caster class...if I play in a fantasy universe, might as well be the most fantastic I can!
I always try to play as a caster of some kind. I've never really been a fan of melee combat. I find it gets too repetitive too fast.
Some plate melee class that's on the front lines.
I tend to play the ranged damage classes, prefer magic to physical.
I always play a healer, because I never trust the game AIs for healing. Once I beat the game I usually switch to a rogue or something similar. I like stabbing things. In the face.
I like playing Tanks in RPGs. :)
I have two answers for this, and it depends on the game. Multiplayer type games I prefer a warrior tankish type role where i make stuff really mad at me and not my friends. But in solo play watching things explode in fire from afar is my preferred strategy!
first run through usually a melee, due to not trusting caster mechanics.
Mages, magi, wizards, spellcasters, fingerwigglers, magickians, sorcerers, fateweavers, and whatever other names you use for those who create something from willpower alone."Any peasant can pick up a sword and swing it.Any person can be devout in his faith..."...and some other cool stuff I can't remember that means casters rock.
I'm a total 'Noob' when it comes to RPGS. So far I've sampled playing warrior and hunter. I have to say the independence the hunter gives me is refreshing. I can solo with the company of a loyal companion or I can participate in group driven activities.
I usually like to have a go at all the clases, but with a strong preference for a well made caster class. But there is beauty in every class, and I really like games that let you pick an choose from each class to make a hybrid. In multiplayer games, I like to heal, then damage, in that order. I like being critical, or unimportant (Healer vs DPS - yes, I'm calling DPS unimportant, but only in comparison to Tanks and Heals).
