Mists of Pandaria Legendary Cape Guide: Updated for 5.4

Overview

All level 90 players in a raid can work on the legendary questline at the same time. it's been purposely designed to cut down on loot drama and the feeling that one person in your raid ends up overpowered.

This legendary series spans the expansion, with more elaborate rewards each tier.

The reward for Chapter I: Trial of the Black Prince, added in 5.0, is a +500 stat gem that can be placed into a special Sha-Touched weapon, of which there are versions on LFR, Normal, and Heroic difficulty. These gems only work in Sha-Touched weapons.

The reward for Chapter II: Wrathion's War, added in 5.1, is an additional prismatic socket, Eye of the Black Prince. This socket works on both Sha-Touched and 5.2 raid/crafted weapons, but not heroic scenario or Siege of Orgrimmar weapons.

The reward for Chapter III: Two Princes, added in 5.2, is a legendary meta-gem. This can be applied to ilvl 502+ helms added in 5.2 and beyond.

The reward for Chapter IV: Celestial Blessings, aded in 5.3, is an ilvl 600 cape.

The 5.4 reward for Chapter V: Judgment of the Black Prince is a legendary cape with a powerful proc and unique visual effect.

Patch 5.4 introduces a catch-up mechanism for players behind on the legendary questline. The first eight bosses in Siege of Orgrimmar have a chance to drop a Sigil of Power, Sigil of Wisdom, Secrets of the Empire, or Titan Runestone. In addition, all bosses in Throne of Thunder can drop Sigil of Power and Sigil of Wisdom.

The 5.4 questline starts when Wrathion sends you to the Timeless Isle in A Timeless Discovery.

Once there, you must collect 0 Timeless Coin for Secrets of the Timeless Isle. This should go pretty quickly as killing rares can drop several hundred coins. However, this does not track your cumulative total--you need the 0 Timeless Coin on hand and unspent to complete the quest. To speed up the process, consider doing introductory quests like The Essence of Time which reward 0 Timeless Coin and loot special one-time chests for Treasure, Treasure Everywhere.

You must also defeat four new world bosses, the celestials, in The Emperor's Way. Their PTR dungeon journals are below. These bosses drop ilvl 553 Tier 16 gloves and legs, as well as Season 14 PvP accessories, legs, and gloves. They spawn in a set order, and if you wipe, the next Celestial will spawn so you'll have to wait a while.

Chi-Ji, The Red Crane

The trial of Chi-Ji is a test of hope. Uncertain of the future of his people, Emperor Shaohao sought out the great Red Crane. The Great Crane challenged Shaohao to find the hope within himself, and cast off his uncertainty. Once the Sha of Doubt was vanquished, the Emperor became a beacon of hope for his people. To pass the trial of the Crane, warriors must believe in hope, even in the darkest of days.

Inspiring Song: Chi-Ji sings an inspiring song, healing for 5% of maximum health every 1 sec. for 10 sec.
Firestorm: Summons a blazing whirlwind of fire, which inflicts 200000 Fire damage to players within 10 yards every 2 sec. and moves around.
Beacon of Hope: Chi-Ji designates one player as a Beacon of Hope, reducing damage taken by 90% for all players within 10 yards for 20 sec.

Blazing Song: After designating a Beacon of Hope, Chi-Ji sings a Blazing Song, inflicting 500000 Fire damage every 2 sec. for 10 sec.

Crane Rush: At 66% and 33% health remaining Chi-Ji summons a flock of Children of Chi-Ji over 15 sec.

Child of Chi-Ji: Children of Chi-Ji flock away from Chi-Ji, casting a Blazing Nova every 1 sec

Blazing Nova: Deals 300000 Fire damage to players within 4 yards.

Yu'lon, The Jade Serpent

The trial of Yu'lon is a test of wisdom and faith. With omens of a bleak future floating through his mind, Emperor Shaohao climbed to the summit of Mount Neverest to seek the council of the Jade Serpent. Yu'lon urged Shaohao to cast off the dark emotions that plagued him, and through his trials, Emperor Shaohao would become one with the land. To pass the trial of the Serpent, warriors must be wise in their choices.

Jadeflame Buffet: Inflicts 30000 Fire damage to all nearby players and increases Fire damage taken by 5% for 1 min. This effect stacks.
Jadefire Breath: Inflicts 300000 Fire damage to players within a 40 yard cone.
Jadefire Bolt: Launches several Jadefire Bolts, creating Jadefire Blazes at the impact locations.

Jadefire Blaze: Inflicts 100000 Fire damage to players within 11 yards every 1 sec.

Jadefire Wall: Summons a massive wall of jade fire, inflicting 500000 Fire damage to players caught within the blaze.

Niuzao, The Black Ox

The trial of Niuzao is a test of bravery and fortitude. When Emperor Shaohao was overcome with fear, the Black Ox counseled him to face his fears directly. After a protracted battle with the Sha of Fear, the Emperor emerged victorious. To pass the trial of the Ox, warriors must be resolute in the face of overwhelming danger.

Headbutt: Inflicts 1000000 Physical damage, knocks the player back and removes all threat.
Oxen Fortitude: Niuzao tests the enemy's fortitude, increasing all players' health by 20% and Niuzao's damage dealt by 10% per stack for 2 min. This effect stacks.
Massive Quake: Inflicts 50000 Physical damage every 1 sec. for 10 sec.
Charge: At 66% and 33% health remaining, Niuzao charges around the arena, inflicting 500000 Physical damage to enemies within 30 yards every 1 sec.

Xuen, The White Tiger

The trial of Xuen is simultaneously a test of strength and a test of restraint. When Xuen gave Emperor Shaohao a 10-foot-pole and asked him to strike one of Xuen's warriors, the Emperor could not land a blow. For without restraint, anger and hatred run wild. To pass the trial of the Tiger, warriors must harness their power, while burying their thoughts of violence.

Spectral Swipe: Xuen swipes at players in a 0 yard cone, inflicting 300000 Physical damage and reducing armor by 10% for 1 min.
Leap: Leaps at a player, performing a Spectral Swipe upon landing.
Crackling Lightning: Inflicts 50000 Nature damage to players every 1 sec. and jumps to up to 5 nearby targets.
Chi Barrage: Launches a barrage of Chi at players, inflicting 500000 Nature damage to players within 3 yards of the impact locations.
Agility: Increases haste by 300% for 1 min.

After reporting back to Wrathion in A Pandaren Legend, you receive Timeless Essence of the Black Dragonflight which imbues your cape and turns it into a legendary one. At this point, there is also a zone-wide yell in Vale of Eternal Blossoms and the most recent players to complete the quest have their characters displayed by Mogu'shan Palace.

There is one final quest, Judgment of the Black Prince, to defeat Garrosh Hellscream. At this point you will complete Chapter V: Judgment of the Black Prince. If you are raiding Flex or LFR, you will have to wait until October to do this step due to how Siege of Orgrimmar is gated.

Endurance of Niuzao: The Endurance of Niuzao fully absorbs the damage of one attack that would normally kill you. This effect has a 2 min cooldown. Does not function for non-Tank-specialized characters.

Essence of Yu'lon: Your damaging spell casts have a chance to empower you with the Essence of Yu'lon, causing you to hurl jade dragonflame at the target, dealing 1 (+ 200% of Spell power) damage over 4 sec. This damage also affects up to 4 other enemies near the burning target. (Approximately procs per minute)

Spirit of Chi-Ji: Your helpful spells have a chance to grant you Spirit of Chi-Ji, increasing all healing done by 5% and causing all overhealing on players to be redistributed to up to 5 nearby injured friends, for 10 sec. (Approximately 0.58 procs per minute)

Flurry of Xuen: Your damaging attacks have a chance to trigger a Flurry of Xuen, causing you to deal 1 (+ 20% of Attack power) damage to up to 5 enemies in front of you (hunter: current target and up to 4 enemies around them), every 0.3 sec for 3 sec. (Approximately procs per minute).

You do not need Trial of the Black Prince in your log to get reputation from kills.

Reputation is gained by killing Mogu and Mantid in Townlong Steppes, Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Dread Wastes. You can get reputation easily while doing Golden Lotus and The Klaxxi dailies.

Normal mobs give 10-12 reputation.

Elites give 15-30 reputation.

Rare Elites give 40-45 reputation.

Adds give 1-3 reputation.

You can use items like Battle Standard of Coordination to boost your reputation gains.

If you are a rogue that has completed Patricide, you can skip this step.

The Strength of One's Foes: Collect 10x Sigil of Power and 10x Sigil of Wisdom
The 10x Sigil of Power and 10x Sigil of Wisdom will be lootable by anyone on the quest.

These items drop in Tier 14 instances, and in 5.4, they will drop from all Throne of Thunder bosses, as well as the first eight bosses in Siege of Orgrimmar.

These quest items can drop in all difficulties, including LFR.

Trillium Bar: made from Transmute: Trillium Bar or Smelt Trillium.

Secrets of the Empire: These drop from bosses in Throne of Thunder, on LFR, Normal, or Heroic difficulty. Lei Shen is guaranteed to drop a Secrets of the Empire. In 5.4, the first eight bosses in Siege of Orgrimmar can drop Secrets of the Empire as well.

Capacitive Primal Diamond: +324 Crit Rating and chance on melee or ranged attack to gain Capacitance. At 5 stacks, fires a Lightning Strike, which deals Nature damage (Lightning Strike Charges Trigger).

Courageous Primal Diamond: +324 Intellect and chance on beneficial spell to make your spells cost no mana for 4 sec. (Clearcasting Trigger).

Indomitable Primal Diamond: +324 Stamina and chance on being hit to gain a 20% reduction to physical damage taken for 15 sec (Fortitude Trigger).

Sinister Primal Diamond: +324 Crit Rating and chance on spell damage to gain 30% spell haste for 10 sec (Haste Trigger).

Echoes of the Titans: Collect 12 Titan Runestones from raid bosses in the Chambers of Flesh-Shaping and the Halls of Thunder. These are the last six bosses in Throne of Thunder, and it's a guaranteed drop from Lei Shen. In 5.4, Titan Runestone will drop from the first eight bosses in Siege of Orgrimmar as well.

Heart of the Thunder King: Slay the Thunder King in the Halls of Thunder and collect the Heart of the Thunder King. This awards Chapter III: Two Princes.

Black Prince ScenarioThe Thunder Forge

Visit Wrathion, in whelping form, by the Thunder Forge to start the scenario.

In the early stages, you will protect Wrathion as he charges up the Thunder Forge--a progress bar will display on your screen.

You will fight waves of Mogu with the help of Shado-Pan NPCs. Balls of blue lightning will periodically appear, which will increase your damage and healing.

Enter the forge where Celestial Blacksmith begins to charge the anvils. You must defend Celestial Blacksmith from small sha adds, and have the help of Celestial Defender, who has several useful abilities like Cosmic Slash, Celestial Storm, and Celestial Roar. Standing in green beams created Power Surge by will heal you, and you can click on the completed anvil to do AoE damage.

When the anvils are charged, Sha Amalgamation is summoned and Celestial Defender will tank this fight for you. Some more details about the defender:
The defender does more damage based on its health: Astral Endurance

The defender cannot die. It instead activates Celestial Restoration and heals itself up while banished. In these phases, it is wise to kite the boss--you may need a speed boost.

Power Surge is still active in this phase.

Sha Amalgamation

You must interrupt Insanity or you will die. Clicking on one of the charged anvils interrupts the ability and makes Sha Amalgamation take additional damage for a few seconds. The anvils periodically recharge throughout the fight.

Dark Binding: Banishes the Sha Amalgamation tank.

Meteor Storm: The sha summons a deadly meteor storm in the area, causing massive damage to any target who is hit.

Shadow Crash: Fires a missile towards an enemy at range. When this missile lands, it deals 127237 to 142762 Shadow damage to all enemies within 10 yards of that location and 47500 to 52500 Shadow damage to enemies within the area every 2 sec for 20 sec.

At low HP, Wrathion finishes the lance. Click the lance, and then use your special action button Throw Lance to kill the Sha Amalgamation.

Chapter IV: Celestial Blessings: Epic Cape Reward

A Reckoning sends you to talk to Wrathion after the defeat of the Thunder King and collecting 12 Titan Runestone. In Patch 5.4, you will be able to get Titan Runestone from the first eight bosses in Siege of Orgrimmar as well as the last six bosses in Throne of Thunder.

Celestial Blessings: You must defeat one of the four celestials--each Celestial's challenge is designed for a specific spec/role. All versions have the following:
Blood of the Deathborn: Creates a pool of Deathborne blood that inflicts 50000 Fire damage every 1 second.

Summons Neltharion's Tears, which have Empowered Blood: The caster grows more powerful over time, increasing damage done and movement speed. Stacks.

Reign of Fire: Inflicts 48750 to 51250 Fire damage.

The DPS challenges, Xuen and Yu'lon, have Crumbling Arc, Blindside, and pop mirror images that cast Inferno.

The tank challenge, Niuzao, and healing challenge, Chi-Ji, fixate on Wrathion with Eyes of the Destroyer, extra damage in Molten Fury, and summon Molten Elemental that cast missiles.

You draw attention from the little add when you do over-heal, but they are easy to kill / kite with some Moon- Sun-fire. I think in order to complete "Incoming..." you need to do the 5.1 quests until you've unlocked that set of dailies.Comment by ShredanI have done the cape quest on all 3 of my 90s the hardest for me was my lock because he cant move as fast as my mage but as of Sunday no problem they nerfed it and the bloods slower .gl all it should be a breeze now.I wish they would “adjust” the solo scenario (The Thunder Forge), in Chapter III, to make it slightly less annoying. I’m not at all suggesting to nerf it or otherwise make it easy - just alleviate the annoying parts. I want hard and fun, not hard and annoying.

The scenario end boss (Sha Amalgamation) is certainly a contender for worst/most-annoying fight in the history of WoW (based on the numerous comments I’ve seen from others who’ve tried, and infrequently finished, the fight). You are basically guaranteed to die many times (which, in and of itself, is not inherently problematic - it should be a challenging fight).

Annoyances:

It is one of the most cluttered fight spaces ever in the game. The slightest movement can cause sudden significant camera shifts. This is exacerbated by the unusually high amount of movement required (especially with Meteor Storm where you really need to see what’s happening while running around to avoid getting hit). Could there be a way to alleviate that (not necessarily removing ground obstacles which are part of the fight, but adjusting the sight-lines so that the camera moves are not quite so awful in there?
You can’t leave the scenario (which you might have to do if you don’t have a way to repair in the instance, or just run out of play time that day) without having to restart and go through all the stuff leading up to that boss again. I would like them to do something like make the boss fight (and maybe the lead-up fight in the same room) a separate scenario, or provide a way to reenter the scenario and skip the parts already completed.
The fight seems (based on my own experiences, and those of others I’ve read online) harder for melee dps (like my main, unfortunately) than other roles. I don’t have a suggestion for how to fix this without nerfing the fight a bit - there might not be a way to fix it.

I was worried about the difficulty of this quest and then I two shot it with my off spec (Fury Warrior). I then easily one shot it with my mage and hunter. This quest is not "too difficult". I've clarified where the Celestials are for Chapter IV, and how you have to talk to Wrathion on the Jade Serpent bridge to get ported for Yu'lon credit, instead of flying in from the east. I need to kill Sha of Fear, which will hardly ever be challenged by anyone by now.

I need a kill on High Marshal Twinbraid(being a Horde), and the quest zone is pretty much empty, so I can't get a group.

Somehow I didn't get Isle of Thunder starting quest when I logged in, so there is no way I can progress thru the questline....

Having done this I figured I would be able to go and kill the bosses again for a chance to drop a Titan Runestone. This is not the case, and you may not loot both off of the same boss in one week. Only bosses you had not killed prior to obtaining all 20 and turning in the quest.
