The first 50 players per region are awarded Master Angler of Azeroth, which is needed for Accomplished Angler. Previously this was awarded to the top three players on each realm. (Note: personal observation indicates the number of players awarded the achievement may be higher, but the BlizzCon Q&A and initial yell from Riggle Bassbait stated 50.)

The five grand prizes are unchanged, they are: Arcanite Fishing Pole, Hook of the Master Angler, Dread Pirate Ring, Boots of the Bay, and High Test Eternium Fishing Line.

Formerly, only the 1st place winner had a shot at some of the prizes, but Evitarani commented on Wowhead that they were able to pick up the Arcanite Fishing Pole today without being in 1st place.

A: We are bringing it back in the future. We're aiming for 7.1.5, but do not take it as a promise. The new technology broke it, sharding made it so there wasn't a singular STV so people couldn't win. Game Master Rainmithwen here. At the moment, the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza is continuing to be beset by a bug that is preventing it from starting properly on all Oceanic realms. This issue has persisted despite our best efforts to get it fixed, and in fact we've thought we had it fixed no less than three times already only to find that the fixes either didn't solve the problem at all, or only caused the event to start once, after which they failed to start properly again.

It may be some time before we are finally able to get this issue resolved, sadly. For the moment, the most expedient way to take part will most likely be to level a character on a non-Oceanic realm, as those realms are quite oddly not affected by this bug.

I am sorry for any confusion this issue has caused, and I hope that we're able to get a fix in for the problem that solves it long-term. Until then, should you choose to create a character on another realm to go for the event, I wish you the very best of luck.Comment by elorilConfirming this now works on Oceanic realms, completed on Frostmourne this morning. The world quest popped Monday morning 9AM AEDT (Sydney time), which is 2PM PST.
