1 batch Flaky Pie Dough (Store bought dough is fine)

1 pound crushed raspberries

1 pound blueberries

2 cups sugar

3 tablespoons pectin

2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Pinch of ground cardamom

Directions

Begin by making the crust: Roll out the batch of Flaky Pie Dough into a large circle about ⅛-inch thick. Carefully drape this dough over a 9-inch tart pan or a standard pie pan. Press the dough into the bottom of the pan, and then trim off any excess. If using a pie pan, you may wish to pinch the crust into a decorative shape. Use the extra dough to add cut-out embellishments. Place the prepared shell in the freezer for the 15 minutes or so it will take to make the filling.

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Place the raspberries in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, and cook gently until the berries fall apart. Strain the berry pulp into a clean medium bowl, discarding the seeds. Return to the pan, and add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and cook for a few minutes. Remove from heat and pour into the bowl. Place the berry mixture in the fridge to cool.

The pie dough needs to be as cold as possible in order to have optimum flakiness when baked in the oven. In order to ensure it remains cold, you'll want to leave the berry mixture in the fridge long enough to be cold as well so you don't compromise the intergrity of the pie dough. Use your best judgement.

Add the now sufficiently cold berry mixture to the very cold pie dough.

Bake in the oven for 45 minutes.

Carefully remove the tart from the oven, still on the baking sheet, and allow to cool completely, for at least 2 hours, before cutting, otherwise the filling will be runny.

Chef Tips

Use powdered pectin. Follow the directions on the packet of pectin.

Poke holes with a fork all around your unbaked pie shell to keep dough from bubbling during baking.

Blind bake your pie shell before adding filling. Bake in the oven with pie weights for 10 minutes to partially cook pie dough.

A squeeze of lemon juice in the filling while it’s on the stove will help brighten the flavor and get a bright red color.

Bloodberry is a native herb to the Isle of Quel'Danas, and is needed for Open for Business. The bloodberry grows wild in many regions of Azeroth and has long been considered nothing more than a nuisance. I've learned though, that when exposed to the Sunwell's power this plant takes on special properties that can be distilled and imbibed to magnify one's abilites.

This daily quest opens up as part of the Shattered Sun Offensive phased questing. It rewards the Bloodberry Elixir which worked on Isle of Quel'Danas, Sunwell Plateau, and Magisters' Terrace.

The Shattered Sun was added during the Burning Crusade, as part of a server-wide effort to unlock the Isle and learn about the lore of Sunwell Plateau. Players can participate in daily quests for the faction to aid in thwarting Kael'thas's efforts in Magisters' Terrace, and contributes towards unlocking various NPC conveniences and unlocks access to various vendor rewards.
