I'm not exactly what you would call an Auction House player, but I had a unique opportunity last year that was amazing for making gold. I moved servers. I had been planning on moving months earlier but ended up having to delay the move. Before I made the decision to hold off, I had already bought a number of pets and mounts, having checked the Undermine Journal to see which items I could "buy low; sell high." I also started hording certain materials: ore, gems and Chaos Crystals mostly, but also some cloth, buying them when they were cheap and trusting that a more populated server would have a higher resource demand (which it definitely did, according to Undermine Journal). In the end I made my server transfer about a year after I originally planned, but it happened at a good time (a major patch launch). I nearly doubled my total gold reserves, and I still have a few of the more niche items like mounts and toys stowed away as demand doesn't seem to be too high for them just now.In general I make my gold via Champion missions and selling materials, but I also still make WoD bags on an alt, though sometimes the materials are just plain more valuable. Farming the Garrison for Sumptuous Fur is still worth it on my new server. That, and I almost never buy things I don't need to play the game. Crafting this expansion just became too much of a time sink, and Blacksmithing and Engineering (on 2 different miners) just don't have much that sells well anyways. All that said, I am hoping to dip my toe into a bit of flipping once I have a bit more time to dedicate to learning.
I have all my draenor garrisons optimized to obtain resources and I exchange everything to craft drums and invisibility potions. And I usually buy every drum before mage tower.
Once I made 30k by just emptying my bank. I was so happy! It was the most I ever had back then, so I bought the travelers mammoth :)
Not exactly a large item, but I make quite a nice amount of gold off selling hundreds of Potion of Prolonged Power at about 30 gold a piece.
During the EN mythic times I happened to come across a titanforged BoE bracer from the raid which some unfortunate soul auctioned for the non-forged price. I got 150k from that flip.
Somewhere at the start of Cataclysm I spotted a Mottled Drake posted for 50K. Bought and immediately reposted it for 150K, and it was sold by the end of the day. 100k was a huge flip back then (nowadays it would be couple of millions) so I was quite happy. But couple of weeks later I found out that it was bought by a friend of mine, and she even had to loan some gold from mutual friends :( Well, business is business I guess...
After a 3 year break, came back right at the start of WoD. Quickly I got back into (the newly and upgraded) TSM since I used to love it back in wotlk and cataclysm I figured there's so much more that was added and it's worth looking at. Whilst checking out sniper and failing to set it up properly, decided to do some manual scans for BOE's since their value at the start of the expansion was insane. First scan and i see a pair of boe (plate shoulders i believe) that was listed for about 120 gold. Since I hadn't been playing for a long time, I wasnt quite used to TSM and thought the addon was glitched. Disabled it, reloaded UI, scanned with auctionator and the shoulders popped up again for 120 gold so I instantly bought them.I didn't see the name of the guy who sold em, since i figured it's such a great deal to help me started on the new realm I decided to play on, and I barely had somewhere around 30k gold. Not even 1 minute goes by and I see a guy in trade chat raging at how broken blizzard's auction house is and how the auction house only gave him 120 gold when he clearly typed 120k.Having a laugh after playing this game for so long, realising someone's that thick to actually type the letter "k" as a representation of three "0" in the auction house, thinking the system will inherently figure out that he actually wanted 120.000 gold for the item and not just 120(k) gold. After trying to explain to him how he messed up and feeling kinda bad seeing he didn't even understand the basic mechanics of the auction house, things took an unexpected turn when, instead of saying he's sorry and try to ask for the item back, the guy just starts being aggressive, threatening me that I SHOULD give him the mount back or I will get reported and have the item removed from my inventory and banned for scamming. Needless to say, I was not expecting this...probably in the same way he was not expecting the answer he got to the ticket he kept telling me he already sent that it's gonna have bad consequences for my account if I refuse to give him the item back.Listed the item for 90.000 and sold it within a few hours. Sent the guy in a mail 500g and said thank you for the item. (I know...bit of a &*!@ move but then again, wouldn't you have done the same?)
Bought a Drudge Ghoul off the AH for 4k and flipped for 104k ^_^
I'm not very AH addict, but once Legion started I found out that new ore has very high price. Then I spend an hour to mine it, then placed it on auction. It was the easiest thousand of gold since I started playing, however I didn't know why do all these people spend their money on this ore.
My biggest flip was when the Cushion toys were first coming out. I had a couple that I had gotten on alts that I had already learned. I went to post them and found the same ones at really low prices. I bought them up and bumped the price up a couple hundred gold. Not a huge profit, but nice nonetheless.
I bought Timeless Isle's pets thinking that if I learned them that way they will count for the achievement of getting all the weird objects of the Isle. BIG mistake.
When Argus came out, one of the first WQ up was a emperium to hesselian trade. I saw that because of it, the price of hesselian was going to drop because with people not knowing the price of gems it was a reasonably good deal. It dropped, I bought out loads at around 300g each, reseting the market somewhat and sold them the next week mostly for around 700g each :D i spent a large amount so was worried at first but it paid off.
I am pretty bad at bussiness and money things... I used to buy mounts from the AH, but then I figured out in many ways it's a lot better to craft the mounts on my own and sell them. Yeah... that's all I guess!
My best story is getting in while the Sun Darter Hatchling was hot. I sold hundreds of potions for over 75k. May not seem like much to some, but that was a huge win for me as I could farm the mats in a matter of minutes and create a large number of potions, and slow them slowly over the course of the day.
Hi allNot sure what my biggest sale ever was but I think it must have been around 20K+Well in terms of turnover, I do an average of 10-20k profit a week on the AH. I focus mostly on gathering materials and crafting gear to sell on the AH. I also do some flipping, buying cheap and reselling. I do wonder what things are best to sell on the AH. It would be nice to up my weekly profit to 100K+I mostly use TSM as my price guide for the AH although sometimes they are a bit off.I hope you all enjoy the game and AH.Kind regards
I found a Geosynchronous World Spinner mount on the AH for 12k one day. I, of course, snatched it up! I didn't use it right away because it kind of felt like cheating so I just left it in a bag. I got an in-game mail from the poster a couple of days later gratzing me on the good buy and admitting he screwed up and forgot a 0 in the price. I felt bad for the guy and COD'd it back to him for what I paid. He responded with a huge thanks and a 20k thank you. I got paid just for doing something nice. :)
I'm not much of a flipper myself - but the darkmoon cards was once down to 1/5 the price of the decks, so I managed to pick up some cheap decks for a good profit :D
My best flip of all time was when i was using the sniper in tsm. And suddenly the "Sandstone Drake" popped up to the amazing price of 6000gold. I bourght it instant and reposted it for 120k and got it sold....normal the price was like 60 75k but because of the patch we got flying mount the price on Sandstone, and other flying/ground mount was somtime 200% of normal price....My biggest sale was for sure mount from LK 252000gold..I got all quest completed while farming TMorg for my warrior....(The one u get from the legendary questline for shadowmourne)
As others have already stated, my most lucrative ah seller has been the crafted legendaries. I have both a leatherworker and a tailor cranking those out almost weekly. On a side note, one time some guldies and I decided to start new toons on a different realm. Since we were all new to the realm we started with no gold. Some of them lined their pockets by selling some of their account bound pets on the new server. I took advantage of the noblegarden holiday that was happening at the time near the starting zone. With just over an hour or so of egg collecting, I had 2 mounts to sell on the AH which landed me over 30k...not bad for a lvl21 noob.
I ended up selling some of the Pattern: Shadoweave Mask for 20k close to day one of the luminous hunt! Pretty good profit.
