Surprised to see no Azortharion or Adreaver voicing their opinions, but I agree with pretty much everything stated above, especially with Bendak. I've casually played Beta on a Hunter and leveled to 120, switching specs every now and then to see how they do in different circumstances and changing talents around. All three are "playable", but I found BM to be the most enjoyable if still a bit too simple and with a large chunk of very obviously useless or "niche" talents in the tree. I am very glad to be back to one pet baseline and with no random animals around. Would appreciate Stampede becoming baseline and some sort of interaction with Dire Frenzy stacks mechanic as well, something akin to the old Focus Fire or maybe even Lynx Rush with a twist.Even if I one-shotted normal mobs on MM, having to line up a 3-second-long Aimed felt plain boring to me. On Vignettes or bosses, it felt much better, but I still think there needs to be some kind of mechanic in place that allows reducing the cast time of at least every other Aimed Shot. Something akin to Conflagrate for Destro. I know the numbers pass hasn't been done yet, but MM just like BM has the obvious "you lose" choices in the talent trees. Additionally, Explosive Shot is still its terrible Legion version. Survival... I don't really know what to say, tbh. I mourned the loss of pre-Legion Survival and the Black Arrow-Explosive Shot-Serpent Sting gameplay, and in BfA I found myself also missing the Mongoose Bite-Flanking Strike-Lacerate gameplay from Legion. I dunno, I simply didn't like it, even though originally I was sorta excited that Survival is moving a bit closer to what it was. But on Beta it feels like the spec doesn't know what it wants to be and, despite the devs' reason for removing old Surv being "how close it was to MM", new Surv is melee-BM, complete with its own version of Kill Command, Bestial Wrath and even Spirit Bond. Raptor Strike modified by Aspect of the Eagle even looks like Cobra Shot!I hope that in future Hunters will, after all, see four specs, representing BM, MM, Survival (mix of Legion and BfA) and old Survival, if need be given the Dark Magic Archer thematic - it is weird to be participating in an expansion that heavily features not 1 but 2 prominent magic infused Archer characters and the development team completely refuses to allow players to have that option as a playable specialization.
Survival had its issues but now it's just another brain-dead spec. They're designing the spec for people who don't even play it. Survival was never going to be the most popular spec because people made their hunters to be a ranged auto-attack class, and those specs are simply years easier to excel at. Now you have like 1 melee skill and the rest are hideous ranged skills that make no sense. Kill command isn't even the same skill as BM's but lets give it the same name cuz... why? But i guess if you want to shoot eagles out of a pistol for some reason then hey you'll love it i guess. Why even use a spear anymore, you only have like 1 melee skill now and your cooldown just makes you attack from the range of the other specs anyways. Time to shelf one of my two favorite characters because new survival is a mindless mess with no sense of identity or challenge and was created for people who would never play the spec anyways. And the way it's going it is very obvious that by next expac it'll just be another ranged spec because Blizz doesn't want to have to put the work toward balancing it. In fact, they're probably trying to butcher it for BfA so that they can point and say "see? no one plays this melee spec!"
After reviewing all of these Bm changes i can't help but believe we are being watered down as a class. The only change to thrive is MM as it has always been for Raiding. I believe they have yet to find out what " Survival" means to the class itself, and they are truely lost when it comes to BM, reason being is there is no " Cookie Cutting" spec now as we should have more choices in our playstyles. I can't help but think that is crap, pets are now back to being put into 3 specs, DPS/Tank/Cunning(PvP) giving us little to no choice in the matter. On top of this even being able to tame " Exotic" pets means, oh he looks slightly cooler than the other pets. Taking away most pet abilities in the game means , we now just see who puts up better numbers for the given situation (Different Specs). I think that rolling in some legendary abilities into specs is a great idea to enhance gameplay, but not when it gives us the worst of what we dont want/doesn't help. Example is "Born to be Wild" giving us no CD to Aspect of the Wild and no Thunderstrikes with our pets. With these changes it makes it a hillarious joke to que up for anything mythic dungeons or raids as " DPS" as we seem to be losing alot of it. Im a player who like most people, enjoy all sorts of content in this game including: Old raids, Rep Grinds, New content exploration, and competiting dps in whatever new dungeon/raid is. That being said i would like to be viable in all of those areas and most of the time are, my problem moving forward as BM ( Only Spec for Me/Played 12+ years) is that when it comes to dps we are lackluster alot of time. I get we are giving the gift of being mobile but that shouldn't come in the form of raw numbers, or poor class synergy (Talents, Mastery Stat). Unless Blizzard does some serious tuning the following expansions + BFA will go as followed MM> Survival> BM. Some of us enjoy this class and would like to feel good about it / helpful to the group. Its cool we have 2 pet talent option but i still have yet to see how it operates in the Beta. I'm not asking to have BM be best DPS in BFA but simply a competitive spec. 24/24 Bottom of the barrel dps alongside Outlaw rogues isn't acceptable either. Funny thing is we've seen this kinda of "love" before being down here, and would greatly love to shine as a spec other than " That guy who pulls extra things in a dungeon and dies". Proceed Carefully into BFA for BM, and survival hunters for that matter. You guys at Blizzard are honestly doing a great job, lets hope you keep that up when it comes to fixing this broken class.
Jeeeezzz. That's a lot to read. I play Beast Mastery and I don't really care what they do to it, being a casual player.
Wait- did I see TWO-HANDED MACES on Survival Hunters abilities? Since when could Hunters use maces of ANY kind?
IMHO, Survival should have been a Rogue alternative. A stealthy, reclusive tracker that stalks it's prey with bleeds, poisons, and control utility. No explosions or bombs. No ranged attack abilities. More pet coordination (abilities that ramp off each other). I can still dream...
But I like being a MM Hunter without a pet! I struggled in WoD to get the balance right, but now I do excellent burst damage alone. They've completely reworked MM and made it useless! :( Can't a gal be a Lone Wolf please?
Still absolutely crushed that Black Arrow is gone. Bye-bye, Dark Ranger and Void Elf fantasy.... AND the "zoo build"... How depressing and watered down.
They should switch Survival to be the mail tank spec. Lots of fun ideas with that, like having the aspects be tank cds, using the pet as another tank cd or having it "fetch" a new add in a boss fight.I know, just my opinion, but that alone should make it more interesting than the current state.
Survival is so close to being the Tinker I've always wanted. Bombs, traps, and mechanical pets. Just take Spitting Cobra from MM and give it to Survival, and instead of a cobra, make it an actual turret.
Nice! Looking forward to MM not being the “it” spec to play for the 3rd exp in a row. BM is sounding pretty enticing.
That's what I have been thinking also, we have tanking classes in Leather so why can't we have a Mail tank specI agree it could be interesting, once they moved survival to melee this felt like a missed opportunity.Having the pet bring debuffs and blocks, stomps to improve your survival.I played survival up until it went melee then it's no longer of interest as I already had a rogue, warrior, paladin and druid, all melee so I did not need another. I don't understand why blizzard went this way.
