Comparison of Unique Customization Combinations for All Races - Orc Male and Night Elf Female In The Lead

The top races with the most customization combinations in the pre-patch:

Orc Male - 9,607,511,015,424
Night Elf Female - 2,664,990,720,000
Human Female - 606,285,388,800
Tauren Male - 194,075,481,600
Dwarf Male - 169,500,672,000

The races with the least customization combinations in the pre-patch:

Nightborne Male - 21,168
Nightborne Female - 24,192
Highmountain Male - 84,000
Dark Iron Female - 110,880
Highmountain Female - 134,400

This is a way to show that just because a race might have the same options as each other, the combinations you can make are much different

For example:

Human females have 10 things you can customize
Male mechagnomes also have 10 things you can customize
You can make almost 6000x more unique human females over male mechagnomes
Pandaren females - 6 things to customize
Nightborne males - 6 things to customize
318x more female Pandaren over Nightborne males
Zandalari Female vs. Male Dwarves - 11 things to customize
8340x more unique Male Dwarves
"But allied races" "But genders"
Night Elf vs Tauren females - 15 customizable options
54 times more Night Elf females

More things to customize doesn't mean more possible unique characters
It's not manipulation. If orcs had 20 skin colors and no other customization and humans had 2 skin colors and 2 eye colors and 10 hair styles then you can make 40 different humans but only 20 different orcs
Humans have 9 layers of customization, Orcs have 16

A Human with 40 faces and 40 hairstyles is 1,600 unique humans

An Orc with 10 faces, 10 hairstyles, 10 skin colors, and 10 tattoo styles is 10,000 unique Orcs

More customizable options = more unique characters vs more options per customization
Orc customization guideI was shocked at first too, but they have a lot of different options and a lot of choices for those options

12 skin colors
9 face styles
18 hair styles
14 hair colors
14 beards
9 sideburn options
19 eye colors
4 scars
3 grimes
6 earrings
4 nose rings
4 tusks
4 tattoos
4 war paints
4 war paint colors
2 posture options (hunched or straight back)

12x9x18x14x14x9x19x4x3x6x4x4x4x4x4x2 = 9,607,511,015,424It does not, this was something that I did not account for but I will the next time I dive into this data. I didn't realize some faces were locked to some skin tones. This also happens with some earring styles and ear lengths.

I'll post an update with more information and more analysis on the options after I figure out how to visually display it without it looking like a crazy persons ramblings

That being said, I don't imagine it drastically affecting the current numbers as I don't think this happens with a lot of races. From what I can tell, Orcs don't have any cross customization locks, so their position would stay the same

And any locks would decrease the unique combination possibilities, so they are still on top by a huge margin.
Not in this version, but they will be in the next version, along with all the customization numbers and options listed to compare each race with their options

As I go through these numbers I realized I missed some customization options. Some hairstyles have extra customization if you choose them. Also, the bald options don't always mean the color options are void. Beard and eyebrow colors are connected to hair color, so bald heads can still have color variations.

Holy moly this is way more complicated than I thought. I can't wait to dive into this and figure it all out.

I wish they would add just a few more customizations for Nightborne after they see how few there are in comparison.

Still a cool post, though. It's surprising to see how many unique orcs you could make, especially since you have 2 orc races as well.

Blizzard REALLY needs to revisit the customization and even it out. I already ran these numbers and knew about this, and it's honestly pretty shameful to see the devs' biases for Horde in general .Comment by steelangelAs stated in the wow post, this is a REALLY terrible way to measure. The factorial method here just exacerbates the perceived issue. I agree that a huge disparity exists, but doing it multiplicatively is just disingenuous. You can do this but just adding up the options and you'll get a far more reasonable approach that shows the work put in. Male orcs have their "options" doubled by just adding the hunch for crying out loud.
