Mists of Pandaria Beta: New Maps, Icons, NPCs, Quests, and More
We had a huge patch
last night and there's a lot more information to cover!
First off, in the biggest news,
achievements will be account bound
. Blizzard had hinted they really wanted to do this, but didn't know if they'd have the time. They are now mostly account bound!
Secondly, we datamined more
, and icons. We also previewed the new features in the Pet Battle system, as well as general changes such as spellbook improvements and new female Pandaren fur markings.
Do you want to be the best, that no one ever was?
Battle Pet Training

50 Easy Elders: Getting the Lunar Festival Pet
The biggest draw of the 2012 Lunar Festival is the new vanity pets--but the catch is that the Festival vendors sell different ones to each faction for 50 Coins of Ancestry. However, the pets are BoE, so we'll show you the easiest way to get 50 Elders if you rolled an alt for the pet, but got stumped after ??-level guards one-shot you in Brill. Whether you want to sell extra pets for gold, roll a toon on the opposite faction to put the pet on the Neutral AH, or don't have enough tokens on your main to buy everything you want (like engineers), this guide can help.
This guide provides maps and tables organized by difficulty level for each faction. For Elders that are tricky or located far away from flight paths, I've also provided tips to reach them without dying, after personal experience on my 58 deathknight and 62 mage.
For the purposes of this guide, I will assume that you only have ground riding. Deathknights have flight paths in 1-60 zones learned automatically, so getting to 60 for a Flight Master's License is not that important if your'e that class. However, you will be able to get 4+ more Elders easily with flying.

A Guide to Collecting TCG Vanity Items
TCG items have long been the highlight of many Wowhead contests, thanks to our friends at
, and I personally love collecting TCG mounts and giving pet codes to friends! Not all players know about them though, besides going 'cool mount' when they see someone in a major city, so here's everything you need to know about them.
Before I list all the TCG items, their details, and equivalent items, here's some basic facts:
As part of the Trading Card Game, there are three cards in every new set that have special codes which can be redeemed for loot! These loot cards vary in rarity--generally there will be a commonly-acquired pet card, a somewhat-rare novelty item, and an extremely-rare mount.
To get your item, first you will need to go to WoW's
and enter in the 25-digit code. This will then give you an in-game code that can be redeemed by Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.
If you're uninterested in testing your luck with random packs of cards, there are alternate ways to get loot cards--for a price. Any TCG card or the exact code written on the card may be sold for real life money and not in-g

Hallow's End Guide (Oct. 18th - 31st)
It's that time of the year again--ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks unite!
hits Azeroth today.
Hallow's End is one of my favorite holidays in World of Warcraft. Running from from
October 18 - October 31
, the holiday invites players to gather candy, wands, food, masks, and even vanity pets from inn keepers all over the in-game world.
Before we get onto our guide, we'd like to cover the immediate changes for those who already are familiar with the event. There are quite a few with this event for this year, including new items and a new currency system:
Gone are the days of trick-or-treating hourly for a chance at an extremely rare mask or a rare vanity item. Instead, the event has been streamlined into a vendor and daily system, very similar to

, makes its appearance here on a vendor, for example; meanwhile, old favorites, such as
have been made purchasable. There's also
from a short questline and
from vendors which is a fun campfire.

Guardian Cub Coming to Blizzard Pet Store Soon
Blizzard's finally putting that model we datamined back in 4.2 to use--the
will be available on their virtual pet store shortly!
An interesting thing to note is that this pet will be bind-on-equip. It will be interesting to see if this ends up going well or badly for Blizzard. On one hand, it means people will no longer try to sell them in trade chat as potential scams; on the other, it allows people to essentially buy gold.
Coming soon to a Pet Store near you: the new and titanically cute Guardian Cub companion. You’ve soared across Azeroth on the majestic Winged Guardian. Soon, you'll be able to purchase a pint-sized Guardian of the Titans sidekick to accompany you on your adventures.
Stunning good looks and adorable, supersized eyes aren’t all this new pet has going for it. The Guardian Cub is also the Pet Store's first tradable pet, meaning it can be swapped between characters in-game or given as a gift to guildmates, friends, family, or that special someone -- no adoption papers

4.3 Preview: Chromatic Dragon Pet and Loot Rule Changes
We wanted to post a few models up that Alayton found for us--mostly the Chromatic Dragon pet, which I am betting is the reward for the guild legendary for tier 13, since there already was a Deathwing pet a while ago. There are also the Lunar New Year rewards we speculated one as well as the Scarab pet from the next TCG edition (not archaeology as we had hoped).
As for the Fel Hippogryph, he's actually
from the TCG (thanks to reader Nathanyel for the tip).
New Loot Rules in 4.3
In response to concerns regarding how loot will be distributed in the Raid Finder system, we are making some changes to how loot rolls will work when using the Need Before Greed system in the Raid Finder. When using Raid Finder for the Dragon Soul rai

4.3 PTR Coverage Roundup
It's been a busy week on the PTR for myself and Ashelia. Every day, we find dozens of new things to write about, turning our observations into epicly-long posts. Since there are so many new things, I've provided a roundup of our 4.3 PTR coverage so far--with all the information, perhaps you missed reading something the first time around!
4.3 Preliminary Guide: 3d Models, Items, Holiday Changes, and More
very first overview to 4.3
, we went through the initial 1600 datamined items to make sense of it all. Among other things, we found numerous new mounts and pets, items that hinted at changes to holidays like
Helm of the Fire Festival
, new profession recipes, and many items related to the revamped Darkmoon Faire. We also listed numerous 3d models of NPCs, models, and weapons--as well as making a video of some of the new mount animations. Finally, we listed some of the radical class changes in 4.3, placing them next to Ghostcrawler's quotes on balance for an explanation.

4.3 Preview: Professions, Holiday Pets, Spell Effects, and More
Day 3 on the PTR: Ashelia and I are still scouring for changes. We took turns screenshotting each other's pets, throwing glittery dust on each other, and rolling alts to test out new spell effects.
The end result: we've found tons of little additions--from the Worgen mount vendor to sassy holiday pets that talk back and hearth away--and also compiled a table of all the new profession recipes.

News Round Up: World of Warcraft Loses Another 300k Subscribers and More
The awaited second-quarter call just happened and World of Warcraft is at 11.1 million subscribers, down another 300k from the last reported number. The previous quarter had reported a loss of 600k.
However, this doesn't mean revenues themselves are down or that Blizzard itself is in trouble.
Gamasutra reported today
on Activision Blizzard's second fiscal quarter earnings which were 53% higher than predicted. The company largely beat its expectations because of a large increase in digital sales company wide, which includes things like Blizzard's digital subscriptions and store. CEO Bobby Kotick followed up by saying that there would be continued investments in all of Blizzard's staple titles, including the upcoming unnamed MMO nicknamed Titan.

News Roundup: Missing 4.2 Hairstyles, Holiday Bags Changed, 4.2 Featured Items
Just a few Blizzard posts today - no new hotfixes yet, but if any show up I'll definitely add them. You can check out previous Patch 4.2 hotfixes in
Some 4.2-Added Hairstyles Not Yet Implemented
You guys may have seen our awesome
4.2 hairstyles preview blog
which showed off a variety of new player hairstyles being added with Patch 4.2. Unfortunately, not all of these have been implemented, but it looks like some of them made it to live...
We did have a lot of new hairstyles we had created over time up on the patch 4.2 Public Test Realms. The problem was that, even though these hairstyles were added on the test realms, many of them were not finalized or approved by our art team. Because of this, a good portion of them (about half) were pulled shortly before patch 4.2 was released on live realms, leaving only a partial implementation of new hairstyle choices.
Unfortunately, this means some races/genders now have more hair

Patch 4.2: Two New Hunter Pets, Molten Cats, and Dungeon Journal Interface Changes
There are a couple exciting things still left on 4.2's PTR worth checking out, so we've rounded them up here. These topics include two new hunter pets (
following up from Blizzard's original eight they introduced last week
), some new vanity items including a staff that turns you into a molten cat, and a lot of Dungeon Journal changes for functionality and appearance (it's looking very good).
We'll start with the hunter pets first since a lot of you were unimpressed with the five spiders, two spectral cats, and the reskinned owl of last week. Blizzard apparently listened to the masses and decided to add two very cool new models with their own trick for taming them.
Remaining Hunter Pets
Karkin spawns in Fireplume Peak--you'll reach him by jumping off Skitterflame's Ledge. He is a crab with a shiny metallic skin that casts a frontal fire attack from range. Again, you will have to jump between floating rocks to get in range to tame Karkin, but not too close or else you’ll be attacked.

Patch 4.2: Eight New Hunter Pets Preview
Two days ago, Blizzard dropped the bombshell that there will be eight new hunter pets to tame in 4.2--and that all of them will be rare spawns in the
zone that currently serves as a daily quest hub. Unfortunately, these pets aren't all that exciting since they're mostly spiders (PvP pets, anyone?) or reskins of old rares, but the mechanic they use is actually exciting. Taming them will be a unique challenge as each one has a brand new ability and mechanic meant to challenge players, sort of a throwback to the hunter quests of vanilla. So any hunter who fancies themselves a true marksman will probably want to get these guys just for the sake of getting them.
We've taken the liberty to track down these new creatures with the help of
our awesome friends at WoW Insider
and make a short video showing off their models while Perculia helped compile a bit of their strategies. We'd also like to thank
the forum goers from Petopia
for finding the names of a few we couldn't find yet.

Cryptozoic Shows Off New WoW TCG Loot Cards!

I'm sure many of you have purchased packs in the past and been disappointed to find that the super-rare items were indeed as super-rare as advertised. Well, unlike previous World of Warcraft TCG expansions, Cryptozoic's

Winterspring Frostsaber Mount Grind Changed in 4.1
It seems that my speculations were correct! In the first batch of PTR data a few uncategorized spells surfaced involving the care and feeding of Wintersaber cubs. Then, I'm sure many of you noticed the adorable new cub models in our
last model post
. Finally, today's update brought in the quests that seal the deal - the Winterspring Frostsaber mount grind is being changed in patch 4.1! Instead of requiring a seemingly arbitrary assortment of repeatable quests to increase reputation, the process will instead be (basically) identical that of earning the Horde's

The vendor is a human and not of goblin faction, but is located inside one of the buildings. However, the pet does NOT bind on pickup, so there's really no reason you shouldn't be able to take another, non-pirate character to grab one or get a guildie or friend to help out. :)
