5.4.8 PTR: Stacking Valor Buffs, Deeds of Valor, and New Mount Models
The 5.4.8 PTR was updated to
the recent datamined build
, so Olivia and I checked out what was new! The new mounts were not seen on the PTR, although we do have 3D models below of them. But we were able to experiment with the new
Heart of the Valorous
buff and determined that it was automatically given to all players across PTR realms and stacked additively with
Valor of the Ancients
--great for alts!
Edited to Add
: Logging in to the PTR today, the zone-wide buff has been removed. We're now not sure how it's attained, but we'll let you know when we find out!

There's a new Patch 5.4.8 PTR build and it contains new mounts--the
Warforged Nightmare
players can transform their mounts into with
Nightmarish Hitching Post
, and
Grinning Reaver
!
Recently, Blizzard posted about some
gear improvements coming in 5.4.8
, namely additional item upgrades and a new token,
Deeds of Valor
(
Valor Points +100
), which costs 3000 Timeless Coins and grants your character 100 Valor Points.
The
PTR database
is also now updated to show the additional item upgrades coming in 5.4.8!
You can now upgrade your 5.4 items two more times, for a grand total of four upgrades and a +16 ilvl boost. Simply visit an item's page and click on the additional upgrade options, or look at the "Upgrades" column in search results and mouseover the icons.
You can also show Upgrade level 3 and 4 in external tooltips.
To go along with the additional item upgrades,
Garrosh Heirlooms
have all received a +8 item level boost, to remain competitive as they cannot be upgraded with Valor.

Each expansion, we evaluate how we present our site's content and if we can do anything better. For Mists of Pandaria, we
refined the layout of Wowhead News
to better serve our community--we streamlined the design, added some features to the sidebar, and changed the domain.
For Warlords of Draenor, we want our community to be better informed about our frequent database updates as well as our in-depth content previews. Many users love our
news coverage
and blogs announcing
new site tools
, but we've also heard from other users that they aren't aware of these posts due to the front page layout.
Siege of Orgrimmar Changes in 6.0 & Warlords of Draenor
Blizzard just published a blog explaining changes
Siege of Orgrimmar
will undergo for 6.0 and beyond, including gear stats and rewards like heirlooms. If you want to learn more about raiding in Warlords of Draenor, be sure to check out our

All items will have their stats and socket bonuses squished. In addition, items that have hit and expertise will have those stats removed and converted into a useful secondary stat like haste, crit, or mastery. Spirit will no longer be found on armor pieces as well (it can still be found on non-armor pieces like necks).

Our goal at Wowhead is to provide as much information to players as possible, so the Wowhead team has been hard at work on a front-page redesign. We're putting more of our current content on Wowhead's front page--Alpha previews, guides, and news roundups including current Twitter posts from the
Blue Tweet Tracker
. The layout tweaks also allow us to highlight more features such as
Class Guides
on the navigation menu and the
Blue Tracker
on the sidebar.
Blizzard's Warlords of Draenor Raiding Plans
Raiding in Warlords of Draenor
The final part of Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas' Raiding Blog has been posted, covering raiding going forwards in Warlords of Draenor.

The key points are as follows:
LFR will have different gear sets and associated art. If you want to see the LFR models, you can

The rate of LFR gear drops will be almost doubled compared to today
The devs are trying to minimize the elements that have made guild raiders feel like they needed to do Raid Finder each week
LFR gear will not have set bonuses
LFR will have trinkets, but they will be more similar to more basic dungeon versions than raid versions.

Each raid difficulty will have its own weekly lockout. This means that completing a boss on any difficulty will not mean you can't do it on another. So, if you kill a boss on Normal, you can also kill him on Heroic and Mythic. Killing a boss on a given difficulty only locks you out of repeating that kill on that same difficulty in the same week.

: these sets come in many colors, including versions called "Alliance" and "Horde."

: These sets have previously been seen on WoD gladiator PvP pieces in our database, which may have been a placeholder. There are three colors for each set.
Draenor LFR

Blizzard's Warlords of Draenor Raid Blog
, they confirmed that LFR gear will have different artwork than gear found in Flex, Normal, and Mythic.

Children's Week
is a week in which we brave a challenge greater than any undead monstrosity and a task more daunting than saving the world. We must become parents for all those orphans throughout Azeroth and make sure they are happy. We can't tank a child's fears, we can't heal its memories of pain, nor can we DPS the sorrow out of them. So equip your toys, make a mage conjure a candy table, fill your quiver with joy, load your gun with something colorful, and venture into the World of Parenting!

Due to the advent of Cataclysm,
Children's Week
was changed in 2011 to have two new pets and redone locations for the initial tier of quests.
There's nothing new in 2014, but since all vanity pets are now battle pets in Mists of Pandaria, you might be more interested in collecting pets this expansion! Since battle pets are also account-wide, you can collect different sets of pets on your alts to round out your collection faster.

Patch Highlights
Tons of Garrison abilities have been added for Followers. They seem to fall into two types--abilities that allow a follower to be assigned to a specific building, and abilities that increase a success chance when on a mission with various races. Full list below.
There are several other types of Garrison abilities:
Hyperactive
(Increases success chance on missions shorter than 6 hours),
Scavenger
(Increases the materials gained from a mission) and
Advanced Training
(Increases the XP gained from a mission for all followers).
There are also many new Garrison phases and Mechanics.

New Character Models in Modelviewer
The Wowhead modelviewer now supports redesigned character models in addition to the classic character models. Simply select between the new "Warlords" and "Classic" options at the bottom left of the tool.
The viewer currently supports the following races: Male Orc, Female Orc, Male Gnome, Female Gnome, Male Dwarf, Female Dwarf, Tauren Male. There are tons of emote options you can try out as well!
