Easy solod as a 70 BM hunter. Not stunebel so it will be hard for a rogue.

Where does this guy spawn in DM west? Is he a rare spawn or something?

When you enter DM WEST, theres a park and that big Mana tower with trees everywhere.
Basically you play Frogger and avoid all the mobs and get to the other side. On the opposite side in the center is a ramp down to a big treant. You want to go to the left of that ramp (not down it) and the level that you are on should over look the treant room. To your left should be a room with ghosts and you should be able to see the guy in the corner. Happy farming. : D

I hav ekille dhim 6times now and i have gotten teh damn healing cape 3 of the 6 times, pendant necklace 2 times and druid book 1time. I am a feral druid after those shoulders...for a 22%drop rate it doesnt drop often.

Duo priest and warrior with a few epics each were unable to kill him. We did get him to 1% 3 times so it is possible though.

Instructions:
1) Zone in, follow the trees that head to the left, going clockwise around the center. Enter the first entrance (the one in the far left corner from zone in).

2) To the left will be a doorway. Wait for 2 easy roaming ghosts. Kill them.

3) Have the warrior pull the group of 3 to the right. The priest must shackle the white banshee as it will silence. Shackle must be renewed regularly. Warrior must burn down the blue caster mob as quickly as possible. DPS gear work. Shadow resist and frost resist are useful if available. Use cleave to keep both mobs on you. Priest must watch out for the curse as it will do 2000 damage when it hits. After the blue caster is dead, take down the next blue mob. Rest awhile and finish off the white banshee.

4) Move across and to the right, halfway between Magister and the group of 3 ghosts you avoided. Wait for 1 easy roaming ghost, kill them.

5) Burn down the magister. Priest must be fast with dispelling the SWP. 60% or more of the damage taken will be shadow damage so shield is not required for warrior. Try to interrupt spells with pummel. If mind control hits the priest you will die.

6) Wipe over and over again and resolve to bring a 3rd person next time to do more damage and make this much much easier.

1: It is easely possible, to sneak through the room, with the wandering Tree Guardians, and when entering the left wing, it is also possible to sneak past the 3 spectres to the left if you walk close to the wall, though beware that one of the spectres will roam a bit, and will become aware of you, if it moves towards you, while you are closest to it. (took me 3 deaths to learn its pattern)
This "sneak" should bring you to the corner of the left wing, and from here you can just walk by the wall, all the way to Kalendris

2: I tried soloing him (a lvl 60 frost mage, for my own fun), and took 3k hp from his 20k... not a good idea, since his spells do avrg 1400 damage per hit, and he cannot be silenced/frozen or any of the good stuff.
Might be possible for a warrior and prist group.

Im a rogue, 18 SR unbuffed, i can duo him fine with a priest who has 70 SR unbuffed. It takes almost all his mana to heal me, but if i had 200 SR it would be cake =D

He's soloable by a shaman. He hits like a girl, and the only things you have to watch for are his SW:P and his Mind Blast (which hits for about 2k). Basically just keep a grounding totem down to take care of the mind blast and you can eventually wear him down.

Also soloable by a shadow priest if you can get your resists high enough to resist the mind blast. (you can dispel the sw:p)

I also did this tonight a few times with 1 shaman, a hunter, a rogue, and 2 locks. Easy as cake unless someone gets mind controlled and starts 1-shotting the rest of the party.

For DM west, just die next to the door that you need a key for. Run back as a spirit and res on the other side of the door. Open the other side of the door and let your friends in. Simple as that, have fun.

He's moved! still in the same room as before but further in a bit more, around the corner. You have to clear out a few extra mobs so they dont aggro and he seems buffed since patch... good luck!

My group farms him all of the time. You have to watch the tree patrols, running against the post at the center of the courtyard, just remember, one group goes clockwise, and one goes counter. When you pass the courtyard area, use a potion, or some other way to detect invisibility, as there is a ghost roaming the walkway. When you down him, go inside, and take the group on the left wall. You can then follow the wall all the way around to the corner near him. Take the group of four mobs directly ahead, and your path is clear to him (following the wall again). We use either a pally or warrior to pull him back to the corner we just cleared, but if you get the group in front of him, take a death and nobody but the puller will die. Have somebody pick him up about halfway back to your group so he doesn't lose interest, and it's easy to bag him. We farm three to four times a run, and most of the party wants that talisman.

Since they moved him to the back of the room, you have to pull carefully. There is a group of three ghosts that hover near Kalendris.

If you time it right, you can pull the ghosts while they are away from him. Otherwise, you get 3 ghosts and Kalendris. Ouch

what's the best/simplest way to get to him now?
I went on a few runs many months ago and can't seem to recall how to get to him :(
I'm hoping to get that Mindtap Talisman off him :)

As already pointed out, in Patch 1.10 Magister Kalendris is moved a little. He is further into the hall, and you need to clear a few more packs of the ghosts before pulling him. The fight is still the same though once you engage him.

Which area of the place does he spawn? I'd guess the undead area in west, but I've not seen in several runs.

We farmed him about 6 times with 2 rogues and a druid.

Druid stands back and heals the designated rogue tank. Undead rogues are the best because you can use Will of the Forsaken to break the MC or your PVP trinket will do the trick.

Some shadow resistance is ideal sometime he crits you for 1500 +

The Mindtap talisman is way under 7% drop rate, ive run enough attempts at this guy to know. On 54 kill now without one droping.

He is in the bottom level SW corner, just a few groups of 3xUndead spirits to get to him. He was easy to, just keep pumping the heals because he does high damage, but dies quick. Worth doing in a W run.

He's saying that assuming an accurate 7% drop rate, the chance of it not dropping in 54 attempts is 1.64%.

To find the statistical chance of something over a given number of occurances, you take the "chance" and raise it to the power of "attempts" as follows:

.93^54 = .0198

so by my math it's actually a 1.98% chance of it not dropping in 54 attempts, but close enough.

He is there, but you cn hardly see him, make sure you have a warlock that can cast detect invisibility on your party (also nice for the invisible guards that are everywhere in the area)

Three of us took him after a couple of whipes while we refined our strategy:

Rogue, Hunter, Druid (me).

Hunter can get to this boss without getting aggro if he's smart. Our hunter only got aggro once out of about six runs and just feigned.

The fight:

Hunter and Druid stand by the bench near him. The Hunter had a turtle who tanked. Hunters laid a freezing trap by his feet. Turtle attacked first. I healed the turtle right away, and the Hunter helped out - for some reason the boss does a good deal of damage right away. As long as the Rogue is the only one standing near the boss, he is the one who gets mind controlled. The MC'd rogue lands in the ice trap (because the Druid and the Hunter are both standing next to it). I kept healing the turtle while the HUnter and Rogue wailed on the boss. On the second MC, we used War Stomp and Scatter Shot to keep the Rogue off us.

Once we had this worked out, we three manned it successfully 4 times with ease. Green drops on the first two kills. Rogue got his Flamescarred shoulders on the third kill. I got my shoulders on the fourth kill, and the boss also dropped the Warlock DM book.

All in all - lots of fun.

PS. This guy is a pushover in a 5-man.

I think either they changed his loot table for the blues to drop more commonly, or my group was just lucky. We were farming him for the mindtap and outta 7 times going at him, he only dropped 1 green.

Is this guy a rare spawn, or a regular spawn? I take it he spawns on the opposite side of the downstairs undead area as tsu'zee spawns?

Boss is doing only Shadow Damage, so for Warlock with SR gear + Healer duo it should be easy. Priest SR buff is huge, would practically render his attacks useless.

You must avoid Dominate Mind ability or die, he casts that on 2nd in aggro table - but turns out it's very easy to be done. Just heal from max range and he'll never even try to MC your healer.
