When you accept the quest, you get a 30 minute timer. It takes about four minutes to fly the Stormwind to Booty Bay route, and the Cold-Eye Basilisks are along the road and on the west shore in the middle of Stranglethorn.

I'm a lvl 39 hunter. I did it with 18 minutes left. Fly to booty bay. run north. The cold-eye basilisks are on the west side of the road just north of the Gurubashi arena. Then I hearthed back to SW. (I have Aspect of the Cheetah but even without, there is plenty of time.)

I just changed my hearth stone to take me to Stormwind City before flying to Booty Bay, Plenty of time to spare, as a Night Elf Hunter with Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack, running took only a couple of minutes. Then just used hearth stone back to Stormwind and to the Mage Quarter I went! easiest gold I ever got!! Are there more like this?? :)

A 30 minute timer starts as soon as you accept the quest. It takes about 4 minutes to fly the Stormwind-Booty Bay route.

The cold eye basilisks are along the road and on the west shore in mid-Stranglethorn, not in the northwest as the quest suggests. See https://www.wowhead.com/classic/index.cgi?m=137884

Make sure you have your hearthstone up before you try this quest. As a warrior without a mount it took me 15 minutes to go from the quest giver to Booty Bay (BB) and run from the griff trainer in BB to the spot where the mobs spawn.

At level 45, this quest gave me 4700 xp. In addition, the quest gives 1.5g, which makes the 15 or so minutes to do it really worth it. With the cosmos addon, the change in reputation is as follows: Darnassus .007, Gnomeregan .0037, IF .0037, and SW .0096. These are rounded values, and one complete reputation rank is equal to 1 I believe.

Level 40 Paladin.

I bound in SW just in case, but you should have plenty of time to complete this, especially if you have a mount. No spurs, no carrot.

Arrived in BB at approximately 24 minutes.
Killed first Cold Eye Basalisk at 19 minutes.
Dropped on first kill.
Got back to Booty Bay at approximately 14 minutes
Arrived in SW at 11 minutes.
Completed quest with 9 minutes to go.

Was able to visit several vendors in BB as well as check mail. =)

This is a very good deal listen carefully:

Go to SW to the mage corner go to the inn. get the quest.

Fly to BB just walk slowly to the coast where the basilisk are. kill one untill you get the item (i got mine at first kill)

Now you can die as much times as you want to

Just revive and fly back to SW go to mage corner to the inn and abandon quest. then take the quest again. Worth 4700 XP ! and 1,5 g

I am a lvl 42 mage, i just did the quest on 4 min 16 sec.. very easy, just accept quest, use HS, blink and run all the way out of BB, then mount and run to 34.40, kill one, loot and use teleport to SW and complete quest.

I got jammed up in STV w/ some PVP while on the clock...was intending to simply gryph back to SW.

Running short on time, I decided to stone back to IF and take the deeprun tram (faster than gryph from IF to SW).

Upon entering the tram, the quest "failed"...guess it interpreted entering the deeprun tram "instance" as a death (?).

Don't take the Deeprun Tram on the timer!

Naturally, in the end it didn't matter...had the meat. Abandoned quest and retook/completed it on the spot.

Just find the Basilisks on the road north of the arena, to the west of the shadowmaws - its easier and faster than going behind the arena through the raptors.

This quest was the easiest and quikest thing i could have done for rewards of this caliber.
Im a 37 mage and i hearthed to booty bay went to 31,40 were the mob was and ported back to SW
Easy as strawberrie pie on a sunday

Already been mentioned;

Get the quest, go to STV and quest away, dont worry about the timer. Get the quest item and continue going through the rest of your STV quests.

When you're back in SW, abandon quest, get it again, you have the quest item in your bags, hand it over.

Dont waste time flying here and there in a hurry.

Treat this quest like any other that doesn't have a timer. Fail it, but keep it in your log. Then kill the mob when you see it while on another quest.

The quest item will drop even after you've failed the quest, so ignore the timer.

Once you have the quest item, abandon the quest. Next time you are in Stormwind, talk to the Quest Giver (Mage Quarter, Blue Recluse) and get the quest. Instantly turn it in.

I killed the mob about 1 week after getting the quest, and I turned in the quest about 2 days after that.

Mobs: North of the Arena. (around 37,40 - 34,40)
Quest item will drop on first kill regardless if the quest has failed or not.

I started the quest and looted the basilisk haunch as described above, then did a couple other quests and let the timer run out. When I returned to the quest-giver and abandoned the quest, intending to re-accept it, the haunch of basilisk vanished too. I had to do the whole thing over again.

I don't know if it was a recent patch, but it seems the concept of abandoning the quest and handing in the quest item is no longer valid.

I started the quest, ignoring the time, got the meat and returned to Stormwind. After I abandoned the quest, I found the quest item in my inventory missing. I thought I threw it away on accident, so I did the quest again only to find it missing for the second time. So, I'm assuming it has to be done the proper way now. /sad

I took the quest, flew to Darkshire. Searched all over the North west for the Cold eye. None to be found. Failed the quest. I was near the Arena and found one. I got the meat and was on my way back to see if I could abandon the quest and start again and just give the meat. When I abandoned the quest, the meat was deleted from my inventory.
I retook the quest and went back to the same spot that I killed the Cold Eye and killed him again.
I took the meat, stoned back and turned in the quest for the gold and the great experience. Easy to do and good money and exp. (Watch for stealth panthers)

It is correct. If you abandon the quest, the item is removed from your inventory. Of course, I didn't try mailing it to another character or anything tricky like that.

I found the drop at 37.40 in STV. Just to be on the safe side... Make your home at SW and fly to BB and then go from there. I did it in 10 minutes from getting the quest :)

As much as I’ve traveled that road in STV I never noticed the cold eye basilisks before. For clarification, they are just north of Gurubashi arena on the road.

Traveling from booty Bay, just after you exit the arena on the road, you will see a basilisks on the right (wrong kind) and perhaps a tiger on the left. The next critter up the road will be your cold eye basilisks.
Without using my recalls I flew from SW to Booty Bay (6.5 minutes), road my mount and returned the same way. Completed the quest in 20 minutes (+ or – a few). 4700 xp at level 40.
Fun little quest.

I went to the dunes in northwestern only to find that there were no basilisks ther - of course to get to them you have to run psat grom gol (nice to know now though I guess) and get wtfpwned by the guards

if the quest had told me where to go instead of sending me on a wild goose chase then I'd have done this first time, EASY - but as it lied its ass off to me I missed the timer

Coordinates are (36,41). Right next to the road.

Also the text about "must not release your spirit" appears to be misleading. I got ganked by a horde along the road, clicked the "release spirit" button to go to the graveyard, and ran back. Figured the quest was Failed, but it didn't show as failed and the timer was still running.

So I finished it anyway (killed the basalisk and teleported back to SW). Was going to re-Accept the quest but instead he said thanks and it was Completed!

Certainly for a mage. But, really any class, just set your hearth in SW. Head to the area, kill a couple (just needed one kill here), and hearth/port back. BTW, I found flying into Westfall was pretty quick. Had over 20 mins left on timer, and that included queing for AV along the way :))

Very simple, Did it with 43 priest. made Stormwind City Inn my home, flew to Booty Bay. Walked(or if your like my Mounted) to 27,43 then I hearthed out after I killed it. with 15 mins left. While I messed around for the first 5 mins.

43 Mage, finished in less than 8 minutes. I had Hearth in BB, ran to basalisk, kill, teleport to mage tower, done.

By the time I found the right basilisk (looking at the Stranglethorn map, they're in the central western shoreline at the curved shoreline on the map), I only had about a minute to kill it and get back. The time ran out before I killed it. I was able to get the haunch from the corpse but I failed the mission.
Sooooo, I brought the haunch to Stormwind. Cancelled and regrabbed the quest and just handed over the haunch I already got. Quest completed! :)
My hearthstone was set for Booty Bay, so I had no teleport tunnels to worry about.

if u happen to die... release spirit... just proceed with the quest.. you'll still be able to get the quest item. return to angus, abandon the quest and take it again..

That was the easiest 1.5g I've ever made. And I got 4700xp (I died, so I had to abandon after I got the Haunch, and I restarted it right away, then turned it in and recieved 4.7k! Sweet.).

as a 41 rogue I went from angus to the gryphon master to darkshrie, then right to where teh coldeye baslisks were. I went all the way back to darkshre, too the gryphon and went to angus.
I had exactly 7min 1sec left sprinting as fast often as I could.
If I had to do it over again I would hve gone to BB because its a might bit closer

I found out first where the basilisks. They are just a little north of Gurubashi arena on the left side just off the road. Then before I got the quest I set my hearthstone to Stormwind. Im a NE hunter so I was using Aspect of the Cheetah. I got the quest then Griffed to BB(its closer)ran to the Basilisks and the first one i killed dropped the haunch. I stoned back to SW and I turned in the quest. Time left was 15 m 15 s.

I died 2 times on this quest at level 47 because a ? undead mage on lightninghoof Doofers who is proabbly a level 60 decided to be a ***** and killed me on my way to the Basilisks and on the way back from killing a Basilisk. If I wasent a nightelf with a carrot on a stick and Mount speed eanted gloves I would have never been bale to do this quest.

This quest is great for a mage like me, since I can just use the teleportation rune to go back to the Mages in Stormwind quickly, then off to the Inn which is close by.

I just finished this quest at lvl 39 with no mount, no hearthstoning to SW, and with five minutes left on the timer. I was fairly surprised that I was able to finish it as most of the time STV is a big Horde gank fest on Bonechewer. If you were 40+ with your mount and your hearthstone set to SW then this quest would be much too easy to pass up.

Great quest...easy as a 47 mage. Get on your chicken, get to the birds, fly to BB, get on your chicken, go north of the GA and they are just after you make the deadman's curve right there on the hill. Had 19 min to spare what with a port back to SW :) Not bad for 2800xp and 1.5 gold :)

Gryph to BB POP just N of Arena to the left afer Panthermaws. Make Stormwind your Inn first of all.
Kill the darn thing had 10 mins to spare at LV 41 druid.

Did this in 15 min with a mounted 40 pally and SW hearthstone, using info in thread: fly to BB, run just north of Gurubashi Arena then off path to left the Cold Eye Bassies are 39-40 and drop the haunch right away, then hearth out. The rewards were rich, as described.

Horde gankers are always a risk in SV, so be prepared. I passed several mounted and unmounted Horde, but my mount is a fast warhorse and nobody bothered me this time. Lots of traffic on the road, as it was a weekend.

One of the rules to this quest is that you can't release your spirit.

After I killed the basilisk, I used my hearthstone to get to Ironforge, and hopped on the tram to go to Stormwind. Unfortunately, the quest failed as soon as I went through the tram portal.

Perhaps it's because you get a loading screen that the quest thinks you're releasing your spirit? Whatever the case may be, I'd suggest setting your hearthstone to Stormwind when doing this one.

Did this in a group of three level 35 Paladins. You must each accept the quest individually, it does not start as a group like escort quests do, however the quest item is group loot so you'll only have to find and kill one Cold Eye Basilisk. Also, there is more than one type of basilisk in the area so don't waste time killing the wrong ones.

It took about 1:45 to run from the Blue Recluse to the flight master in Stormwind.
It took about 4:15, or 6 total minutes from when I started the timer until I landed in Booty Bay.
It took about 4:00, or about 10 total minutes from starting the timer to run to the Gurubashi Arena area (they spawn immediately North, North West and North East of the arena).

We were able to kill a level 40 Cold Eye Basilisk then hearth back and do the turn-in before 15 of the 30 minutes had run off.

Completed a perfect run on my PVP server w/ 17m 15s remaining. Flew to Booty Bay, ran to the basilisks off the road (thank you, Questie addon!), item dropped from the first mob I killed, hearthed back and turned in. Obviously I did this around 11:30am local before the kiddy gankers got home from school.

Took me 11 minutes with 60% mount (Warlock lvl 40, had to summon Voidwalker, that's an extra 10 seconds).

Remember that you can not die and resurrect at the Spirit Healer!
If you die the meat is reported to be lost, so that's not a viable option!
Do not mount before you get to the tunnel, you will be dismounted when you ride on wood-floor!

Bind your hearthstone in Stormwind.
Get the quest

Ride to the Flight master 1:10
Take flight to Booty Bay 4:10
Ride to 39/41 3:35
Kill the Cold Eye Basilisk (there are Stranglethorn Tigress' in the same area) ~0:30
Hearth to Stormwind 0:10
Run back to the quest giver 0:50

Experience 4700.
Stormwind reputation 200.
Awarded 1 gold 50 silver.

Doable without mount, and without HS available. Fly to BB, wack Basilisk north of Gurubashi Arena (mind you, the ones to the west of the road!), get item, walk back to BB, fly back to SW, hand in, and smile at 1G50 more towards your mount :)

As a level 36 warrior, I had 7 minutes 54 seconds to spare, got the item on my first kill though. Even if you have a couple more basilisks to kill, it should still be well doable.

Friendly reminder, you can die during this quest if you get ressed before your auto release timer is up.

So in Classic, the quest item disappear if you abandon the quest. BUT, you can retake the quest if it's failed, without abandoning it, and that way the quest item will still be in the inventory, and you can hand it in.

If this quest seems not to be available to you, make sure you're not in another timed quest (in my case, the timer was already running for Zanzil's Mixture and a Fool's Stout).

As a 35 Level warlock, no mount (Obviously) and no speed enhancements I finished it in exactly 13 minutes (17 minutes to spare).

One of my most famous dishes is Chilled Basilisk in Lime Vinaigrette. But the problem is... the meat is impossible to keep fresh, and I must serve the dish tonight for a noble's birthday!

So if you can bring me a Chilled Basilisk Haunch from a freshly-killed Cold Eye Basilisk, quickly, then I will owe you a king's feast!

Cold Eye Basilisks are known to roam along the beach dunes of northwestern Stranglethorn, so you have much traveling to do. And be swift!
