The start for quest starts by clicking on a wrecked boat in Un'goro crater, in a pond in the south east corner (63,69)

The quest series actually gives a lot of XP and is a 13 part series not 3. Its amazing for XP but requires a lot of travelling around the worlds to complete and quite time consuming.

First step in the quest gives you a small pack with a few trinkets in it. If ya look at the faded photo it has a picture of a pair of gnomes. And if ya read the paper it says to investigate Marshal's Refuge. 1+1=2. Gnome is in Marshal's Refuge, his name is Linken. Hope that helps =)

Yes, It is supposed to be link, and i'm sure that's Zelda in the Picture. you even get the sword after pushing a Gravestone. And the Gorilla's in the area also have a Chance to Drop Empty Barrels(Donkey Kong).There's also Larion And Muigin(Mario Bros.) But here's my question. Where's The Metroid Referrence Blizz? Cmoe on! I haven't seen Some Blonde Human in a Ginormous set of Powered armor yet !

There's also a reference to a SERIOUSLY old school RPG in Un'Goro. Namely, the 'delicious cave mold' you can pick up seems rather similar to an item drop in NetHack...

this other set of references is before (most) of your times . . .

Back in the 1970's, there was a cheesy show on Saturday morning tv in the States called 'Land of the Lost.'

It ran for a few seasons, I guess - the main characters were Will, Holly, and Marshall. They were explorers who were on a rafting trip, got sucked into a whirpool/time vortex, and wound up in a prehistoric world.

A lot of the quests, names, items, etc. seem to be plays off of that, as well, in Un' Goro.

Just no Sleestak or friendly baby dinosaur yet! :)

The various references to Zelda and other games is fascinating. But the origin comes ultimately back to the N'gorogoro Crater in Tanzania. Its an ancient volcanic crater where numbers of African veldt animals wandered in and couldn't find their way out again, developing their own subspecies or special characteristics. A fabulous place for a visit.

Did this chain in a couple of days and lvled! Thanks for all the great post! Just read through and it's cake. No bugs. Solod everything except last one. Had help from lvl 56 pally. Put my xp totals for the total chain.

....you do this quest for the load of xp you get from it and cause it's fun. Highly recommended, i got over 50,000 xp for this chain on a lvl 56 character (when finished).

Love how the compass points to the center of Ungoro, just like the compass in the Zelda games showed where the boss is, this one does too =P

I know if its completely unrelated to the quest but,they have a scene from the old Conan movies (arnold shwrchinagger is the main character) where the king's skeleton is sitting on the throne,i just wish i remembered where it was.

Upon "completing" this quest via examining the items within the bag, noticing it says "completed" in my quest book AND going to Donova Snowden in Winterspring I cannot turn this quest in. Any suggestions?

DO NOT pass over this quest. It is a quest chain and even if the quest reward isn't that great, the xp is toatally worth it

In the legend of Zelda there was a guy behind a bush who, if you found him there, would say: "I'ts a secret to everybody" lol and then pay you to be silent about his whereabouts.
I think he was supposed to be a deserter or something...

I have to say, this is one of my favorite quest strings in the game. Well worth the effort, and the reward at the end is fun, if not overly useful. If you are a pally, the reward (Linken's Boomerang) is very good, because it is a ranged weapon that anyone can use, which as I understand it is something that is not available to most pallies. While it does not do a lot of damage, it can be used to do pulls. The typical Pally-pull is kinda dangerous in some situations!

The raft that starts this quest is the second southernmost pond (not one of the tiny ones. If you draw a line straight down from the ape cave on your world map it runs right through the middle of it.

I was a level 47 Warrior when I did this quest, and I also got the 5100 XP. Which is a very nice reward for dodging Mucculent Slimes and dying only once when that 20-story-tall Devilsaur snuck up behind me. God only knows how a 20-story-tall prehistoric monster sneaks up on one, but there you go-- the FBI is helpless.

Now I have to get into Winterspring, and I suppose I have to do some research for that.

Finally I have completed that chain. I must admint it was very nice experience and interesting story.. Worth an effort. I heard this quest can be obtained only at 47lvl, is that true?

Quest bugged for me (no interaction with Linken) so I had to abandon it but I couldn't get it back at the raft

I went back to turn in some quests at Marshal's Refuge and Linken was there with the quest.

I took it back on step 3 (go to winterspring).

So if you're stuck on the quest at the beginning, abandon the quest and if you can't get it from the raft, just talk to Linken

This entire amazing questline is a homage to the Legend of Zelda franchise from Nintendo, and more specifically, a homage to the first game in the series "The Legend of Zelda" (LoZ), released for the original NES in 1986. The whole questline contains many references to names, items and locations found within Zelda games. It is very joyful to play through if you're a Zelda fan, and I always do the entire questline on any character I level. Here is my attempt at listing all the references. :)

It's a Secret to Everybody
The phrase "It's a secret to everybody" (written in-game as IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYBODY.) is uttered by a friendly moblin NPC found in many caves in LoZ as he presents you a one-time gift of "rupies" (also called rubies in the game manual, or rupees in later games).
A Wrecked Raft - In some games, such as Link's Awakening (Game Boy, 1993), the game's story begins with the hero washing up to shore in his wrecked boat.
A Small Pack - In Zelda games, the player has an inventory with items. In some Zelda games, you can find bags with goodies, although in the early games, you do not have a WoW-like inventory with bags and bag slots.

It's a Secret to Everybody
Linken - Linken refers to Link, the main hero of the Zelda games, and the character the player plays. Sometimes people confuse the main hero with Zelda - Zelda is the damsel in distress, the princess that Link often (but not in all games) must rescue.
Large Compass - In many dungeons in Zelda games, Link can find the compass, which shows him where the final boss is on the map, and sometimes where to find chests and keys.
Curled Map Parchment - Likewise, in dungeons Link can find the map, which shows a complete map of the dungeon with its rooms, rather than walking around blindfolded.
Lion-headed Key - Link can find keys in dungeons (or buy them) in order to open locked doors or locked objects.
Faded Photograph - Right-clicking this item shows a picture of a male and female gnome standing next to eachother in front of a castle. Strong reference to Link and Princess Zelda.

It's a Secret to Everybody
Linken's Training Sword - In all Zelda games, Link obtains a simple sword very early on, in order to fight enemies. This is the main way to combat enemies. The sword can typically be upgraded further into the game, by a mix of "questing" and talking to NPCs around the world. In the first LoZ game, Link gets the sword upgraded by talking to old men located in caves around the world.

The Videre Elixir
Elixirs (or potions) are a recurring theme in Zelda games. They can be health or mana potions, or they can have other curious effects.

The Videre Elixir and Bait
In LoZ, Link can buy a piece of meat ("food") and put it on the ground in order to distract enemies, allowing him to move past. It is also required to give to a certain mouse/gnoll-like NPC in a dungeon in order to be able to pass the door he guards.

Meet at the Grave
Graveyards feature in almost all Zelda games and often have ghost mobs and secrets. An NPC in LoZ directs you to the graveyard in the game world, instructing you to "Meet the old man at the grave.", where Link finds an old man who has an upgraded sword for him. In WoW, the player is sent to the graveyard outside of Gadgetzan in Tanaris, and after using the elixir, you can meet Gaeriyan while dead, and he looks like an old man indeed. The name Gaeriyan might be a reference to a mob type named Goriya from Zelda.

A Grave Situation
Pushing a tombstone in a recurring concept in Zelda games, many tombstones can be pushed to the side, revealing either a ghost mob or a secret cave or dungeon entrance.

Linken's Sword and Linken's Superior Sword
Link's sword can be upgraded as he progresses through Zelda games. In LoZ, the 2nd sword is called the White Sword.

A Gnome's Assistance
Seeking assistance from an NPC in a cave is a recurring theme in Zelda games.

Aquementas
Aquamentas sounds similar to Aquamentus, the boss of the first dungeon in LoZ. He looks like a dragon spewing fire.

It's Dangerous to Go Alone
"It's dangerous to go alone! Take this." is spoken by an old man in the very first cave Link encounters in LoZ. He gives Link the first sword to help him on his way.
Fire Plume Ridge - The final boss of many Zelda games is often found atop a mountain; in LoZ it is found on "Death Mountain".

Blazerunner - Most likely a reference to Ganon, the prince of darkness, the main antagonist of Link in many Zelda games. He is typically the final boss of Zelda games, and must be defeated using special items, and using all the skills Link has learned along the way. Ganon often has a special invisibility or invulnerability aura which must be defeated or removed, in order to make him visible/vulnerable to attacks.
Silver Totem of Aquementas - In LoZ, Link must use Silver Arrows in order to defeat Ganon while he is vulnerable.
Golden Flame - This golden, triangular item is a reference to the "Triforce", a legendary set of golden triangles found in many Zelda games. Link must often obtain pieces of the Triforce (8 in LoZ), found deep in dungeons, in order to unlock the final dungeon of the game.
Linken's Sword of Mastery - The Master Sword is the final and most powerful sword Link can obtain in some Zelda games.
Linken's Boomerang - In many Zelda games, Link obtains the Boomerang early on, which can be used to stun or damage enemies, or pick up items from afar.

Description

A destroyed raft rests along the shoreline. Considering this is only a small pond, it is not clear as to how it ended up here, although looking at the trees tells you that the water level may not be constant.

Perhaps a little exploration in the area might uncover more clues...
