You should look for a small dirt at 49, 78 - Duskwood.
It's not the SOUTH farm from Sven (even though the quest says so). It's south east, Yorgen Farmstead.

This also begins a very long series that ends up having you kill Morbent Fel. This series alone can level you and get some good Loot along the way.

Once you find the dirt mount, you'll have to deal with 2 Defias Nightblades (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/npc=909) and 2 Defias Enchanters (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/npc=910), (1 of each on either side of the stump) so unless you have some friends with you it won't be easy. I tried to solo this with my 24 rogue, and kept agroing the enchanters who blasted me down with fireballs.

Best bet is to pull the nightblades away with ranged, kill them (careful, they're runners so you might want to slow them, bleed them, or use poison) then see if you can pull the enchanters away, thats where I keep dying. I use vanish to get me out of trouble if they're about to kill me, but by that time, the nightblades respawn and I have to start over again.

Anyone have any advice, or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

People keep on asking for grps for this quest while it isnt really needed, the grave is between the 2 houses, and u can sneak in from behind without any major problems, u might need to kill 1 humanoid

The quest is always easily soloable.
The pile of dirt is behind the 2 houses, if you come from the street you have to kill 1 defias :)

Found the place, but what a hell... 4-6 humanoids (some mages) are fighting around me.
Not very safe if you don't look out or rushing.
You're warned.

Ok, nou succeeded it, and one humanoid killed.
Better walk behind the house, and walk very slowly until you can grab something.

For one humanoid, better walk quick behind the house to prevent trouble with another humanoids.
The one humanoid, if his damage is high, can run to another humanoids.

my guess is that those who can not find the loose dirt are at the wrong farm. I spent a whole lot of time at the Addler Stead in the far south west, but the quest is actually in the Yorgen Farmstead in the middle of the area

Hmm.. this one is pretty easy to solo if u sneak from back of the house.. clear the 4-5 defias at the back (not the lvl-27 mage as i m lvl-23 mage). You need to pull far enough from others as they tend to run away.

If your a warlock this is easy. Take the route around the rocks. This allows axcess to the back of the buildings. The grave is between 2 buildings and you have 2 mages and guard centre and then two within the building next to you when standing next to the tree. Take the guard centre first. Then use your use your succ to take out the guard in the building next to you. There is a second there that will come out and thats why the succ is helpfull there. She will keep one busy for you. Then bring out the void walker and sacrifice him this will give you your shield. Go to the grave. TYhe mage closest to you will fire up. You cannot be interuppted casting a spell while the shield is up. Fear her. Start on the grave. By the time the second mage fires up you have complete the quest and accepted the second.

I killed the 25 on top of the moss pile it aggroed a 27 i died. I came back and resurrected, went to the pile of dust(moss) and took it. It aggroed anothere mage but i managed to open the pile completed the q accepted the next one and then sprinted away from the guy shooting me

..granted, I just found this quest as a lvl 28 Paladin, but after reading the posts here I tried it. Best way is to go in from the back, off the road. Approach by the first house, from behind the big tree. The Defias on the mound ran to me and I killed her. I moved around the tree to the mound and I popped my 8 second Divine Protection shield, completed the quest and accepted the next. I aggro'd 3 others just by digging in the mound. It's a very short run back to the road and they didn't follow me. Can be done. I'm going to try it with my lower lvl mage and see how it goes....

oh, the farm is on the road to stranglehorn vale, the road that goes south by the watch camp. It's the last farm on the left before going into the vale.

I'm afraid killing Defias is your only way to get this done. God forbid you have to actually kill mobs for a quest. It's almost unheard of!

Indeed located at 48,78, however even if you apprach it from the road and aroud the back of the houses- Paladin, Rogue, whatever- you're gonna have to take out a couple of mages first (unless you're a Paladin and just wanna bubble and loot, but where's the fun in that?) I tried stealth-approaching it, but the fact of the matter is, there's not really away to loot the mound without getting defias outta the way. 'Kay? 'Kay. ^_^

i did this quest at lvl 21 without much difeeiculty just stick to the mountains

proberly the reason i finsihed this is becasue im a hunter i killed 1 mob without any argo then sent my pet in to argo the other 3 ran in quikcly opened the mound and ran out of there

I love the comments about this being really easy. Maybe it was but it isn't any more, at least on Thorium Brotherhood (And why would the others be different?). My 24 Druid stealthed into the farm and found the dirt patch, guarded by one 25 rogue, two 26 mages next to one house and several other assorted bad guys in and around the other house.

I pulled the rogue back towards the rocks and was in the process of finishing him off when the twin mages opened fire. Amazing range but leather armor can't handle that kind of damage, so I ran out of range and healed. Managed to kill the rogue.

Snuck back to the dirt patch, shapeshifted and tried to kamikaze the quest item. Of course, each time the mages fired, it stopped the "open item" timer. Lovely. Ran out of range (about 35-40 miles) again and healed. Snuck back again from a different angle, cleared out 2 25 wolves and targeted one of the mages, who opened fire just as I was preparing to do the same. A caster duel! Fortunately I can heal and she could not. Just as she died, her sister (who is more in the front of the house) opened fire even though the house was between us and I was screened. Interesting. Radar?

Manged to outlast her (with a mana potion) and was again healing, just ready to go to the dirt patch when the rogue respawned. Great. At least he wasn't too much trouble. Maybe he was tired from the first fight.

At last I got the book. To add insult to injury, each of the mages dropped about 40 copper. The rogue did a little better but not much, particularly the second time.

This quest can be soloed but I wouldn't call it easy unless you eat 2 mages and a rogue for breakfast every day. Also, I got the quest done but it took a lot of time. Just something to keep in mind.

There were 5 Defias guys all around the pile of dirt. Had my Voidwalker bug them while I got the book, though I was killed while I was trying to run away. :p

I did it a lvl 26 mage. I just walked slowing and killed the rouges along the way then the two mages that are by the dirt. Took the chest as well.49/75 :)

this is, after all, a simple quest. as I approached the dirt, I hadnt killed anyone yet. but when i started "opening" it, a lvl 27 attacked me, even for me, a lvl 23 frost-mage, it was easy to kill him. (just make sure your frost nova/ arcane explosion dont aggro someone) after killing him, all was cake, I simply ran from the farm and delivered the quest! took me maybe 10 minutes, and I had a nice bunch of exp!

Guys what are you talking about? It is behind a stump....that big one inbetween the 2 buildings....and it's very easy as 28 warrior, I just pulled 2 mages away, slaughtered them, then opened it. Simple.

I did this quest with my lvl 26 hunter. Mobs were 24-26 and came 1-2 at a time. There's nothing wrong with killing the defias since its more experience and they almost always drop linen/wool/silk. Just take out everything by the house and you can get to the mound without aggro'ing anything in the barn. As long as your careful.

Did it on 25 War (leveled me to 26 after completing =P). Walk up, uh oh aggro two, kill em easily, take it, walk away. And you don't always aggro.

I'm a 25 lvl Rogue, I pulled two defias one at a time then stealthed, got close, unstealthed, threw a distract in the direction of the mage and while he was looking at the little "poof" I was able to loot the mound of the earth and complete quest then stealth away. The mage is tough, lots of damage.

Head in by the mountain's edge from the Vile camp heading west, you kill 1 wolf, 1 Defias, jump the fence and you are at spot, open done, leave the same way

The quest is very easy and its worth doing it cause the exp reward is 1k. If ur rested, u get 2k. And its quite simple, when u get the quest from Sven, just get back on road and walk until u find The Yorgen Farmstead. Enter it and go to house (you can see it on map). Just front of the house(or near it) you will see a grave; use it and quest completed. Your gonna have to be 25+ to do this quest because few enemyes might attack you on your way to the grave, and beware of the elite in the house :).

This quest is pretty easy to solo. All you need to do is sneak behind the house against the hill and keep going until you can get the mound in view. Once you get there, just carefully pull each one and then you'll be clear.

Just be sure to have room in your inventory cause you'll need to deliver the goods back to Sven.

Whoever set up the challenge rating was hitting the crackpipe. When the quest is first yellow to you, expect it to be guarded by orange-rank mobs, and lots of them.

More fun: Some of the mobs stealth, making it hard to spot them from a distance. The most dangerous (lvl 26 or so) are ranged casters, making pulling problematic. They are closely packed, some are in houses meaning you can pull adds who are inside without any way to see they're there. The non-casters use poison and use it frequently. When badly hurt they run for help.

Maybe it's just me or my class, but this was insanely difficult for me. I was able to approach the mound of dirt from the rear, but once there, no way to open it without being spotted by one of the casters, who immediately called over two stabby rogue mobs.

Its located at the Yorgen Farmstead. best wat is to stick left and go arond back to avoid everyone. but next to the mound is 2 mages and a thief guy and they all lvl 25-26.

I found the mound (right where everyone said), dug it up... and got nothing. My bags had plenty of room. I was halfway back to turning it in before I realized I hadn't seen any kind of notifier after digging that I had found something.

This is a busy quest...lots of baddies Level 26 waiting in the buildings. I took the back door approach and came in from behind the barn...waited until the guards were distracted and grabbed the booty.

lvl 26 warrior, came in from the road leading to straglethorn, the book is buried between the barn and the house. i only had to kill 3 to get the book, and probably could have done it only killing 1.

pretty easy for a lvl 26 druid. i shapeshifted around the west side of the location (behind the barn), pulled the one mob guarding the pile of dirt to me and killed her. shapeshifted back to feline form, stealthed up to the mound, shifted back to druid form, opened the item, and then ran.

Travel to the back of the Yorgen Farmstead, which is opposite the Twilight Grove and Vul'Gol Ogre Mound at the fork in the road. Keep an eye out for Defias rogues lurking in the fields. Between the two buildings, behind the big tree stump, there is a mound of dirt. This is where the book is, return to Sven with the book.

This quest is complete Bull^&*!. I died eight times trying to kill enough mobs around it to get it, and the quest was yellow.

Wait until it turns green, and you might have a chance.

Just to let you know that if you open the mound but get interrupted before you get the book, the quest fails and can't be restarted, at least based on my own close personal experience.

Here's what happened, with a coupla tips for soloing thrown in:

- I took the south road a little farther than Yorgen's farm, and climbed the mountain behind it, then dropped down behind the tree that sits between the two buildings as already described. If you are VEWY VEWY careful, you can probably slip in along the path to the farm that parallels the southern boundary fence, and get behind the same tree.

- Watch out for one bad guy on your side of the short fence next to the tree, then one more just past the mound, which is next to the tree on the bad guy's side of the fence. By individually pulling just those 2, one at a time, (they didn't bring others), you can sidle up close (and I mean CLOSE) along the right hand side of the tree, step over the low fence, and creep VEWY VEWY carefully toward the mound, just to the instant the cogwheel turns gold, then STOP. Watch the enchantress on your right, by the house... try to time your arrival at the mound while her back is turned. I did all this without the benefit of stealthing.

It worked PERFECTLY for me, BUT... after I opened the mound and tried to accept the quest continuation, I was dismayed to learn that my inventory was full. While I fumbled with that, the enchantress turned around, took a few steps, and "saw" me, and that was all she wrote. The mound had been opened, but Accept Quest (to get buried book) didn't work due to full inventory, and the quest window closed when I stepped back during her attack. If I hadn't had the inventory problem, there would have been plenty of time to snatch and run. I did get the XP and rep that goes along with opening the mound, however.

SOOOOO....

After escaping to the road I snuck back but the mound wasn't there. There is nothing showing in my Quest Log, and I went back to Sven several times over the next few days, but he isn't holding quests. His brother has the quest to kill a bunch of wolves is all, and it doesn't "lead to" this one, so I'm stuck.

Any solutions welcome, but in the meantime, hope this helps someone avoid my tragic outcome.

Easy to do. was level 23 rogue, Got round near the mound Pull the dude there, then pulled the dude other dude to the left. Then got the book. Piece of piss.

If your a rogue you should be able to just stealth in there and retrieve it. I did that, but my MoD(Master of Deception) is maxed, so maybe not all rogues will be able to do it quite as easily.

I also went in the back way, and noticed a pattern. Pull one, and another from the house comes to take its place. So in this way you can kill all the nearby Defias' one by one.

Did this as a LV24 Rouge, stealthed in and got the mound and a quest complete. Never got a book or follow on quest... Of course I was attacked as I got the complete. Guess I'll go back to the mound, exxplore it again and see if I get the book and follow on.

I also sneaked in from the back (the road to Stranglethorn). None of the mobs paid attention, so I just grabbed the book from the dirt and left without any fight.

Ok head towards stranglethorn and you will see the farm on your left. go in towards the farm *the closest you can towards stranglethorn* walk all the way around to the back and fight about 2-3 guys to get the book. Easy easy i saw two 21's do it and i did it at 25. Very simple

I don't know if it's changed or not but I remember there being three nightblades and 2 casters from the old days. Apparently there are now 5 nightblades (could have respawned from somebody ahead of me) but the old concept still works. Pull and kill all the nighblades but don't loot them or they'll respawn in milliseconds. Look around to make sure there aren't any more because they're the ones who "alert" the casters. Slide up to the mound from the STV road, watching the two casters near the farmstead building. There can be another caster in the barn but it usually shows up with one of the nightblades. They didn't aggro for me as long as there weren't any nightblades around. Good luck and always assume there's one more nightblade than you think there will be.

Go to Sven's Farm and find what was buried behind the old stump.

Description

I used to work one of the farms to the southeast...until Dark Riders from Deadwind Pass descended upon my farm and slaughtered my family when I was away!

When I returned I saw a shadowy figure skulking near my barn, burying something. He fled before I could catch him, and I couldn't linger for I was hot on the heels of the Dark Riders. So I never discovered what was hidden.

If you can find what that shadowy figure buried, I would be grateful. The hiding spot is behind the old stump near my barn.
